Rape Awareness Week began yesterday and a lack of reaction from all quarters has sparked comment from an organisation which provides sexual violence prevention programmes.

Rape Prevention Education (RPE) director Kim McGregor said the sexual abuse of children was occurring daily around New Zealand and silence was a big reason why it continued.
“Where is the public outrage about the rape of our children and young people?
“It is Rape Awareness Week so where are the government statements, policies about how they intend to tackle the extremely high levels of sexual violation of our children and young people,” Dr McGregor asked.
She said offenders stayed quiet to avoid punishment while children and families were silenced by guilt, fear, threats or confusion.
“Most sex offenders are living with us and our children in our communities because less than 10 percent of crimes of sexual violence are reported to police, and of that small number only about 10 in 100 cases will (see) the sex offender convicted.”
Dr McGregor said it was up to communities to protect children.
RPE, along with survivor advocates Louise Nicholas and Aaron Gilmore, is using Rape Awareness Week to launch a fundraising campaign to help combat sex violence and abuse.
The organisation estimated that a $3 donation would help them educate one New Zealander about how to identify the warning signs of predatory and grooming behaviour and how to safely respond.—NZPA

America is much worse than New Zealand for its child abuse cases and sexually abusing children. America is full of perverts + a lot of them suffer mental illness’s and drug/alcohol abuse as well. [Edited. personal information removed.]

Hi, I live in the US. I like to read about what is happening in other places as a social comparison. I have been outside the US to two other countries. My take on the whole sadism/sex/rape is that people have lost their empathy for other people. Here in the US, a large portion of the country seems to like to make fun of anything “liberal”. Well “liberal” in the US equates to sympathetic to others. I don’t know how the so called Christians running the country ever managed to twist Christianity to meaning that the wealthy keep getting wealthy when Jesus was poor and unpopular politically with just about everyone, but there you have it. As far as the US being worse, no, doesn’t look like it to me. I never would have guessed a country about the size of one of our states (like Texas) would be having problems like child rape and men raping other men. Actually, other than prison mates, I hardly see the US’s gays as the raping type. But anything is possible. As far as bestiality, that’s been around since the bible (look in Leviticus) so nothing new there other than now it is considered cruelity to animals. However, I personal, while not condoning the act, find bestiality a lot less cruel than the common US practice of grinding baby chicks alive. That anti cruelty click has truly given me nightmares.

I am sure it will not be long, as economic problems plauge the world and the US slips in its top nation status that we will lose our freedoms including those of listening in on other nation websites.
But for now, my opinion is that there is no place where community is left and where ppl really care about others. I keep searching.
