ANZpank Day—the day after ANZAC Day

Major in court martial over unwanted spanking

An army major [name suppression ordered, naturally,] has been charged with spanking a ‘female’ colleague, while sending lewd text messages to another and grabbing a third by the thigh.

“In a court martial at Wellington’s Trentham Army Base today, the officer, who has name suppression, pleaded not guilty to all seven charges.” Ad media reported.

“The incidents allegedly occurred in September 2007, in New Plymouth, Linton Military Camp and Trentham Military Camp,” assistant prosecutor said.

Any wonder the young soldiers cover their butts with both hands?

“Defense lawyer Tom Gilbert said the alleged offending was “minor, small, little matter” and not worth bringing to court.”

“They do not construe criminal assaults. They certainly do not construe indecent assaults,” he told the court.

What farce! Is this pretending that the court doesn’t know why people join the army, or that “shagging,” raping and racketeering is NOT the norm and routine in New Zealand army?

Meanwhile we are told that

The *%^$#& Army has a drinking problem, too!

“Driving and alcohol-related crimes accounted for most of the offences committed by Defence Force members from the Linton and Ohakea military bases.

“Documents obtained by the Manawatu Standard under the Official Information Act revealed 47 Linton Army Camp soldiers and five Ohakea Air Force Base members appeared before the courts last year.

“The Linton-based soldiers faced charges of excess breath alcohol, dangerous driving, sustained loss of traction, common assault, careless driving, threatening language, obstruction, speeding, domestic violence, disorderly behaviour, fighting, wilful damage, male assaults female and breaching the liquor ban.

“Linton Army Camp commander Colonel Tim Keating said efforts had been made to tackle the culture of drinking at Linton.”

Sure! The soldiers who don’t drink on Monday nights, can “shag”  their  ‘female’ colleagues on Tuesday nights.

By “covering their butts” I presume you mean “standing at ease”?

Instances of alcohol abuse are indicative of the New Zealand drinking culture …
