Another Judge F**ks Up, Again

Sex with a Minor is [Statutory] Rape!

It is an offence in New Zealand to have a sexual connection with a person under the age of 16: NZ Crimes Act (1961) Part 7, section 134 [See below]

The Case: “A personal meltdown” after a 38-year-old’s long marriage broke down, according to the Christchurch Court News website, a report said.

The Rapist: David Michael Johnson (Property developer)

The *&^%$#@ Judge: Judge Colin Doherty

Defence Counsel: Jonathan Eaton

Crown Prosecutor: [They could have placed a vibrating sex aid with the batteries running out in the courtroom instead, and no one would have noticed the difference. ]

The Charges: Judge Doherty described the charges as “an eclectic collection of sexual connection methods.”

The pre-sentence report: The Rapist “did not accept responsibility and blamed the victim.”

The Victim:  Judging by the sentence handed down, readers may infer that the 15-yo victim was a “worthless” and “unimportant piece of dirt” who happened to be a “good f**k.”

Impact on the victim: “She now suffered from serious emotional harm. She had dropped out of school, was unable to concentrate, and had recurrent bad dreams.”

The victim believes that Johnson, the rapist, targeted her for having sex, which she later described as “rough and demeaning.”

Sentence: The evil Judge “reduced Johnson’s sentence for his guilty pleas, his apology, and the emotional harm payment. This brought it within the range where home detention could be allowed, but he said it was ‘a close run thing.'”

Then the *&^%$#@ judge “balanced” his decision by  imposing “special conditions”  on the nine-month house detention term, and lifting the name suppression (!)

What if the victim was a member of the bast*rd Judge’s own family? Would he have still gone out of his way to protect the rapist?

Home Detention for Statutory Rape? What part of the Law didn’t you understand?

New Zealand Legislation: ACTS

Crimes Act 1961 No 43 (as at 17 October 2009), Public Act

134 Sexual conduct with young person under 16

(1) Every one who has sexual connection with a young person is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years.

(2) Every one who attempts to have sexual connection with a young person is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years.

(3) Every one who does an indecent act on a young person is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years.

(4) No person can be convicted of a charge under this section if he or she was married to the young person concerned at the time of the sexual connection or indecent act concerned.

(5) The young person in respect of whom an offence against this section was committed cannot be charged as a party to the offence if the person who committed the offence was of or over the age of 16 years when the offence was committed.

(6) In this section,—

    • (a) young person means a person under the age of 16 years; and
    • (b) doing an indecent act on a young person includes indecently assaulting the young person.
Section 134: substituted, on 20 May 2005, by section 7 of the Crimes Amendment Act 2005 (2005 No 41).

Jack and Jill Got a Bum Deal

Posted by te2ataria on November 29, 2009

sent by a bean counter

Jack and Jill NOT Short of Skill

But they Have NO Money in the Till

Jack  and Jill can’t pay their Bill. They both work their asses off, but aren’t paid enough for a square meal.

Jack [Terry Victory, 37,] and Jill [Donna, 34,] both work and earn a combined income of $933 a week after tax. After mortgage payment savages their wallet [they bought a modest house for just under $280,000, in Papatoetoe, a suburb of Manukau City, one of the four cities that make up Auckland,] they have only $33 a week left for food, petrol and all other living costs.

Jack and Jill have no money to drive up the hill to get a pail of water, or a proper meal for 14-yo Shontelle, Donna’s daughter.

“We rely on Terry’s overtime to be able to make ends meet,” Mrs Victory said.

But that was never guaranteed. In fact, they were forced to borrow money twice from Mrs Victory’s parents this year, to pay their bills and make ends meet.

Jack and Jill couldn’t afford to buy a pail, or the petrol to drive up the hill to get some water. So they borrowed some money from Jill’s mother, to buy food for Jill’s daughter.

Why buy a new car if you can’t afford one?

“We had to get a new car because the car we had was costing us $500 for repairs every second warrant …”

What’s the excuse for a new fridge and washing machine?

Mrs victory says  the fridge she owned since her daughter was a baby finally stopped working and the washing machine died on her, too.

“We had to get new ones on hire purchase because we didn’t have the cash,” she said.

Initially they received Labour’s Working for Families payments, which  helped a bit. But they soon lost entitlement because Mr Victory’s clocked up some overtime.

“Because he did overtime it got to the point where they were ringing us saying your income is more than you said, and we ended up with a $2500 bill at the end of the financial year,” Mrs Victory said.

“Then we were eligible for $9 a week, and ended up with another bill at the end of that financial year. So I said, ‘Just don’t pay us anything until the end of the financial year’.

“We don’t earn low enough to get Government help, and we don’t earn high enough to get by,” she said. “We are stuck in the middle.”

But they are still better off than many. Mrs Victory will join a school support staff march up Queen St tomorrow in support of colleagues who start on just $12.94 an hour and are forced to work two jobs, often moonlighting as caregivers for the disabled or the elderly.”

“They leave school at 2.45pm and go to work starting at 3pm at another job and work until 9 or 10pm. Some of them do sleepovers and come to work the next morning, and they have husbands who work as well. That’s how hard it is to survive.”

Ironically, because they both work, they don’t qualify for state benefit. You would have thought they get a tax relief.

“They asked, ‘Are you on a benefit?’ ‘No, we both work,”‘ she said. “‘Well, you don’t qualify’ they said.

“So then we thought about trying to buy our own house and were lucky enough to get a mortgage broker who secured it against my parents’ house. We had no deposit. We had huge loans from our wedding. We consolidated the loans into the mortgage.”

Compare and Contrast

Hey what’s happening here? If we are doing so bad economically, how come our appointed Prime Minister “is among 134 men, eight women and 42 families on the Rich List who have a combined wealth of $44.426 billion?”

John Key, the Prime Minister

According to NBR Mr Key owns properties in Auckland, Omaha Beach, Wellington, London and Hawaii, and is a heavy investor in the Dairy Investment Fund, a private equity investor focused on deregulating the dairy sector.

Wait a minute! I thought you said he comes from a humble beginning, and he certainly isn’t academically qualified for a top job, nor has he any particular skills that Jack and Jill lack. Why is he at least $50 million richer?

John Key at his palatial home, reportedly worth $9 million, in St Stevens Ave, Parnell, Auckland. Photo: Geoff Dale. Image may be subject to copyright

Mr Key,  one of  the richest people in the country, “is among 134 men, eight women and 42 families on the Rich List who have a combined wealth of $44.426 billion.” That’s   $10,000 for every man woman and kid in the country.

The Rich List shows that despite tough economic times, New Zealand’s rich have got richer and the country now has a record eight billionaires.”

But why John Key? He hasn’t done an honest day’s work in all his life. I mean, let’s face it all he has ever done is playing with [stealing] other people’s money. Why should he be made super rich?

Good bye Jack, Good bye Jill, and better luck in the next lifetime, still.

Well, it’s time to go to bed now. Perhaps, you can work it all out by yourselves when you wake up. Good Night Dears, God Bless and Happy Dreams!

Musician Name Suppression: SG Backs Corrupt Judge

Time to Take Aim

The Judiciary Rat Pack Stick Their Ugly Heads Out of Sewer

The Ugly Solicitor-General David Collins, QC, has reportedly blocked an attempt by a lawyer who appealed against a permanent name suppression granted to the entertainer who performed an indecent act on a 16-yo girl.

David Collins is protecting a sex maniac who is a danger to kids, teens and women of all ages!

David [tapeworm] Collins, NZ’s Ugly Solicitor General

The famous musician, in his 30s [who looks like Moby, one of our readers said, but didn’t specify how she knew,] pleaded guilty to forcing the girl’s  face into his genitals but escaped a conviction and was granted permanent name suppression by the corrupt Judge Eddie Paul, [aka Judge Pimp,]  in the Auckland District Court earlier this month.

Judge Pimp later attempted to justify the permanent name suppression order, saying publicity would have a negative effect on the sex offender’s career, adding that the consequences would be out of proportion to the gravity of the “medium-to-low-level offence.”

What about the consequences of a sexual predator left at large in the community without anyone knowing his identity?

A friend has since contacted Eddie Paul seeking direction as to the gravity of “deep throat” on Judge Pimp’s scale, both with and without cover. No reply as of posting.

NZHerald Said:

The Weekend Herald has learned that a senior Crown prosecutor looked into appealing against Judge Paul’s order, but Solicitor-General David Collins, QC, blocked the move.

Meanwhile, the suppression order has been flouted by internet websites, blogs and an anonymous chain email.

“We just named him … Sort it out John Key, even you wanted to know. It is a basic right.

A criminal should own up to the crime he is found guilty of,” the email says.

“Either he faces his fans and the general public of New Zealand, and admits what he did and takes responsibility for his actions, or we will.”

This begs the question, why a Solicitor General who takes side with a corrupt judge against public safety is allowed to remain in office.

Name suppression ought to be granted to the victims of sex crimes, NOT to the sex offenders.

The entertainer’s name has allegedly been widely posted on the internet and even John Key has admitted to knowing his identity, though there is no confirmation as to the source(s). The rumors may or may NOT be true.

It’s not enough for the Internet to propagate the sex offender’s name, however, the system must be seen as upholding justice, or it must be crushed and dissolved in favor of a just system.

Key Told To Shut Up Over Worth

Posted by te2ataria on November 27, 2009

sent by a reader

Police Will Never Prosecute One of Their Own

Richard Worth could have raped every Korean woman in NZ, and commit incest with his daughter, but the ‘kiwi Don’ wouldn’t have been prosecuted.

National minister Richard Worth resigned in June this year after a Korean woman in her 40s complained to the police that he had forced himself on her and had sex without her consent.

Dr Worth was minister for Internal Affairs, Land Information, Archives New Zealand, and the National Library, and associate minister of Justice.

The woman who laid a complaint with police against Richard Worth says he invited her to Parliament, hosted her in his ministerial capacity then took her to a hotel room he had arranged for her where a sexual encounter took place.”

Another woman complained Worth had harassed her with multiple text messages and repeated phone calls, seeking sexual favors.

“Dr Worth was also accused by Labour leader Phil Goff [he is rumored to be the CIA Station Chief in New Zealand ] of having made unwanted advances to a Labour activist – Neelam Choudary – after offering her two jobs.”

Richard  Worth, who was until recently the chairman of the Korean-New Zealand business council, resigned as minister of internal affairs in early June.

In July the Korean businesswomen was forced to withdraw her complaint. According to a source, the Korean business community had decided to withdraw their support because Worth had already resigned, and the woman wasn’t a virgin teenager.

Is It True?

Could an Asian female climb to the top of political food chain without being sponsored by influential politicians (come members of the establishment) like Richard Worth?

There was even a more vicious rumor in high circles, also in July, about Melissa Lee, New Zealand’s first Korean MP. It was said that she would never have made it to the top of the political food chain without first sexually gratifying Richard Worth.

Melissa Lee: You think I’d tell you? My lips are sealed! (Photo by Hannah Johnston/Getty Images. Image may be subject to copyright)

What John Key said wasn’t what John Key did – or didn’t!

After Worth announced his resignation as a minister in June,  John Key (NZ Prime Minister) declared that he would have sacked Worth if he had not resigned.

John Key: I lied, what are you going to do about it? (Photo   Source: ODT. Image may be subject to copyright.)
“His conduct does not befit a minister, and I will not have him in my Cabinet,” Key said in June, clearly satisfied that Worth had done wrong!

Key said he would probably tell the nation why he had lost confidence in Worth, but he would wait until police completed its investigation.

Today, the head of the police inquiry into Worth complaint case, Detective Inspector Paul Basham [watch this guy climbing fast to the top of police corruption ladder,] said police had completed a “careful and thorough investigation into the matter,” overseen by  a senior CIB officer and assessed by police legal advisers.

And his sidekick added: “Having completed the investigation, the police have determined that there is no basis for proceeding with any criminal charge against Dr Worth.”

Slam, Bam, Thank you Mrs Korean businesswoman!

OK, Mr Key! Now will you tell us?

That question started off Key. Here’s his tirade:

“Had he stayed as a member of Parliament, you would have had a right to go over the entrails of that because he was a member of Parliament,” Mr Key told journalists at a press conference.

“He lost my confidence and that is the end of the matter as far as I am concerned.

“I am not going to comment on the details. He lost my confidence and that is enough. … I don’t think I need to explain.” [Why indeed, you’re the PM. Don’t let the public spoil that for you.]

Key added, since Worth was no longer involved with National caucus or part of the Executive, “and on that basis that is the chapter closed to that story and I am moving on.”

But what about your promise?

Look here, said PM John Key, the Cabinet Manual says nothing about giving reasons. [Just who the hell do you think you people are? Do you really thing you were the ones who elected me to Office?]

Then he calmed down somewhat and said:

“I think the New Zealand public do trust me to be, I think, a fair but reasonable person. [Being fair and being reasonable are NOT mutually exclusive. In fact the two go hand in hand!]

“When I saw information I felt I needed to act on, I acted.  [It that “Information” the public want to know, you dimwit. Are you going to reveal it or must the public… wait for you to write your post-politics memoir?]

“I am not going any further than to say he lost my confidence and I believe through the Richard Worth saga that I acted fairly, but firmly and swiftly.”

New Zealand Judge F**s Up, Big Time!

Evil Road Rage Murderer Gets Only 4 Years and 10 Months for Killing Another Woman

That’s right, Cassandra Anderson would be released in just over 2 years from now. She, however, condemned her victim to a “life sentence without living.”

Justice Fogarty sentenced Anderson  to four years and 10 months in prison after she had pleaded guilty to the charge of  manslaughter.

Road Rage Anderson had rammed and tailgated another car driven by  Lenore Carr, 53, at high speed on a city street in September 2008.  Carr was killed when her car was forced out of the road and smashed into a tree.

“Anderson’s defence lawyer Bill Dawkins read a letter from Anderson saying she was sorry to all those who she had hurt and those who had suffered.” A report said.

Like hell she is sorry. Watch the evil cow doing it again as soon as she walks out of the prison door!

Earlier NZPA said:

More tragedy stalks family of road-rage victim

Nov 17, 2009   –
The brother and father of an Invercargill woman killed in a road-rage incident last year were also dead within 10 months, the High Court at Invercargill was told today.

Justice John Fogarty reserved his decision on what sentence to give Cassandra Mary Anderson, 24, for the manslaughter of Leone Carr. Anderson had earlier admitted the charge following a depositions hearing.

Mrs Carr, 53, died when her car and a car driven by Anderson ploughed into Queens Park in Invercargill at 3.30am on September 14, last year.

The court heard how Anderson rammed Mrs Carr’s vehicle at least twice and then continued to tailgate her for up to 1.5km. It was believed both cars were travelling at more than 100kmh in the seconds before the crash.

Mrs Carr’s sister Maureen Hammond told the court of the devastation the family had felt. Mrs Carr had been widowed eight years earlier, raising her two children then aged 9 and 13, on her own. In 2004 she and her daughter Anna had both enrolled to study for a nursing degree — they graduated together in 2007.

Mrs Hammond described how in January this year, just four months after Mrs Carr’s death, their brother Deane Shute was killed. He was crushed by a boulder as he worked alone on a farm.

Six months later, their father died.

“Dad lost two children in four months. He became frailer and frailer.” She said he was found dead in the kitchen of his Catlins home in June, having suffered a major heart attack.

“We believe he died of a broken heart.”

The family had struggled to deal with their loss.

“Cassandra Mary Anderson, through your choices, actions and inactions, you have caused us to lose those most close to us. `Why? Why? Why?”‘ Mrs Hammond asked.

Defence counsel Bill Dawkins said he could answer some of the family’s questions.

He told the court Anderson had left her Lyon St home that evening after her partner struck her in the face, splitting open her nose.

She returned to the house twice — once to look for her mobile phone and again a short time later to return her partner’s dog that she had found wandering up the street.

On the second occasion her partner had jumped onto the bonnet of her car as she reversed and then fell off. Anderson drove round the block and came back to check on him.

He wasn’t there so she continued to drive along Lyon St and turned left onto St Andrew St behind Mrs Carr. Within a short distance she rammed Mrs Carr’s vehicle at least twice before tailgating her at speed.

Justice Fogarty said he was struggling to determine an appropriate sentence for Anderson, although he made it clear she was facing more than two years’ jail. [Like hell he was!]

He reserved his decision hoping to release it by the end of the week. Anderson was remanded in custody. For copyright info click link:

Stasi Chief Eyes Asian Students for Terror Charges

Foreign Students Are Terrorists: NZ Stasi Chief

Warren Tucker [aka Dr Nylons] Head of New Zealand Secret Police. Photo Credit: Mark Mitchell/ Nzherald. Image may be subject to copyright.

Asians, blacks and brown Bastards are here to steal our weapons of mass destruction: NZ Secret Police Chief

The Security [sic] Intelligence [sic] Service [sic] has contacted university teachers demanding information on  foreign students who are allegedly gathering information on NZ’s “weapons of mass destruction,” on behalf of their countries.

Tertiary Education Union president Dr Tom Ryan has reportedly been angered by the SIS Stasi maneuver. He said:

The SIS pretends that it should be considered normal for staff to report back to a spy agency. But such a practice would undermine the legislated autonomy of our institutions, including the guarantee of academic freedom.

It also may lead to some members of the academic community being targeted because of their religion, nationality, or ethnicity.

Dr Ryan said the Director of the SIS, Warren Tucker, has sent a letter to university managers [demanding information on foreign students/WMD spies.]

It’s not known how Tucker intends to shut down all other channels of information to justify the importance of his job [sic,] namely public libraries, Internet…

In August 2009  Stasi Chief Tucker released a statement regarding the letter, which he referred to as the “pamphlet” [on breaches of national security and terrorist activities by foreign students.]

“We are inviting NZ exporters, manufacturers, scientists, researchers and academics to remain alert to suspicious advances and seek advice on any concerns they may have,” he said, adding that a large number of “seemingly benign” manufactured goods, technology and know-how can help foreign students develop weapons of mass destruction.

He alleged that the “pamphlet” provided information for scientists and exporters on how to spy on foreign students who may be producing weapons.

“As our outreach effort increases, we hope to increase the number of community contacts who are able to provide expert assistance on proliferation issues; other contacts may provide investigative leads and disruption opportunities,” Tucker said.

This is New Zealand, NOT a democracy!

Why Bypass the Police? Isn’t it the job of the police to deal with criminal activities? Oops! It’s NOT as if SIS are any more intelligent than the THICK BLUE LINE, is it? Ouch!

Dr Ryan said the letter to universities alludes to a meeting between the spy agency and the New Zealand Vice Chancellor’s Committee. [Implying that the letter had made it sound as if it was a done thing and that the academic staff should toe the line, or face the consequences. ]

Dr Ryan said the SIS has also sent out a brochure called “A Guide to Weapons of Mass Destruction: Your role in preventing proliferation of weapons of mass destruction”.

He said the brochure warns scientists and researchers to spy on students and report them to the secret police if they think the “suspects” are trying to learn how to make “weapons of mass destruction.”

Dr Ryan said the brochure [“pamphlet”] has been distributed widely within New Zealand collages and universities and includes fax, email, and web contacts for the secret police, SIS.

“If any tertiary staff member sees something they suspect is illegal they should contact the police. Otherwise their job is to advance and share knowledge; it is not to create an atmosphere where colleagues and students don’t know whether they are being spied on or not. That can only inhibit genuine education and research,” said Dr Ryan.

Don’t Go to New Zealand, If you don’t want to end up in a Guantanamo-like prison

Previously, the blog has warned foreign students about studying in New Zealand for other reasons, namely to stop them from being murdered, killed on the deadly roads, raped, assaulted, mugged and robbed.

This blog has also repeatedly addressed all foreign diplomats, and embassy and consulate staff in New Zealand:

YOU are put on notice henceforth that YOU are jointly responsible, together with the NZ perpetrators,  for any harm inflicted on YOUR fellow nationals who may be visiting/ studying in New Zealand.  YOU  have for too long masked the truth about the depth of racism in New Zealand, for personal interests, hiding  the severity of violent crimes perpetrated by New Zealanders against YOUR fellow citizens.

Now, studying in New Zealand has taken a whole new sinister dimension for Asians and all other ‘colored’ students. If they so much as buy a box of matches, or nail varnish remover, they should expect a knock on their door in early hours of morning. They could be arrested or shot on the spot, if their breath smelled of garlic or they spoke New Zealand English with a different accent, or refused to give the secret policeman a blow job on demand.

Worst still, they could spend the rest of their miserable lives in a Guantanamo-like prison in an undisclosed location in the SW pacific for attempting to learn how to breakdown water into hydrogen [bomb] and [the deadly fire accelerant] oxygen in their science lab.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie: Fonterra

Amnesty International calls on Fonterra and the New Zealand Government to condemn the  San Lu related executions

Geng Jinping and Zhang Yujun who were involved in San Lu tainted milk powder scandal were executed yesterday.

According to the official Xinhua news agency,  the two convicts were executed “for the crime of endangering public safety by dangerous means.” Together they produced and sold about 1,700 tons of melamine-laced protein powder.

[Even in their own country Chinese women and children are unprotected against pakeha malevolence.] A Chinese mother, whose baby died from drinking tainted milk, holds a sign reading “Give me back my baby” outside Shijiazhuang Intermediate People’s Court, Hebei province January 22, 2009. Families hit by China’s toxic milk scandal demanded revenge, compensation and plain answers on Thursday as they awaited the sentencing of company executives accused of wrongdoing. REUTERS/Jason Lee (CHINA). Image may be subject to copyright.

At least 6 babies died and up to 500,000 others were sickened after drinking milk intentionally tainted with melamine. Melamine, an industrial product used  in fertilizers,  plastics, and concrete,  which can cause  kidney stones, was added  to the milk to make it appear rich in protein.

Fonterra’s three directors on the Sanlu board, Bob Major, Mark Wilson and a Chinese national, Patrick Kwok, literraly got away with mass murder.

Fonterra farmers owned 43 per cent stake in the company, having invested more than $200 million in the joint venture, which has since been declared bankrupt.

Now says Fonterra should take a stand against the executions.

Amnesty New Zealand spokesperson Margaret Taylor said: “As a New Zealand company operating in China, Fonterra has an obligation to uphold the values of New Zealand through the way it conducts itself.

“Not only must it speak out against the executions, following a scandal it was so closely associated with, but it must also use its ongoing engagement with China to work on improving human rights and particularly labour rights.”

Ms Taylor said it was important the New Zealand Government also expressed its dismay at the executions to Chinese government.

Fonterra called the milk contamination scandal “a terrible tragedy,” but did not have the courage to own up their part in the conspiracy, or even comment on the executions.

Now Everyone is Talking About the ‘Top Kiwi Musician’ Forcing a Teen for a BJ, and Demanding to Know His ID

Something wrong in a major way with the national psyche of this country, with a discourse that freely empowers the kiwi male, while simultaneously betraying their female counterparts, that they have a birthright to get anything they want from anyone, especially the women, children and tourists, anyplace, anytime!

The narrative, fortified by abundant hereditary myths and unfounded elitism, is constantly reinforced by the government, its corrupt judiciary and the criminal police force, as well as the corporate media.

Apart from the Prime Minister, and a few million others, no one else seems to know the flipper’s identity.

We don’t want kiwi thugs: Australian police

Posted by te2ataria on November 23, 2009

Aussies are up to their eyebrows with kiwi crimes

Guess where all the kiwi thugs end up when they’re kicked out of Oz!

A teenage New Zealand thug has won an appeal against an Australian deportation order, however an Australian police union says he shouldn’t have been allowed to stay there.

“We were happy to take Phar Lap and Russell Crowe [from New Zealand,] but we’re not happy to take this bloke,” said Police Association secretary Greg Davies.

[Russell Crowe? He’ll never grow!]

“We have enough homegrown trouble to deal with without taking on low-lifes who are foreign nationals.”

The 19-year-old moved to Melbourne three years ago, and has spent more than a year in juvenile detention since, the Sun Herald reported.

So far he has been charged with armed robbery, false imprisonment, possession of a controlled weapon and recklessly causing serious injury. He is said to be member of a “face-slashing gang.”

“The consequences for the victims have included serious injury and trauma. Many of the offences have been opportunistic and predatory,” the Administrative Appeals Tribunal said.

However, they allowed him to stay because they said “there was a ‘low risk’ of the teenager re-offending if he continued to accept family and community support.”

At least one more New Zealander with a violent past has also been allowed to stay in Australia, despite convictions for robbery and stalking.  Melbourne courts has ordered him to leave Australia twice already, out of the country, but he re-entered on a fake passport and was granted leave to remain in Australia.

The George Orwell MiniTrue Award

This Week’s Winner of The Big Brother Honest Journalism Award: The Northern Advocate

The George Orwell MiniTrue Award (aka the ‘Big Brother Honest Journalism Award’) for this week goes to New Zealand’s The Northern Advocate for the following:

Story Title: Gold-toothed skull found on beach

Orwellian Newspeak comment that grabbed the prize:

‘The skull – obviously old, but said to still have hair and gristle attached to it – was found by Australian tourists walking on the beach at Glinks Gully, 24km south of Dargaville, on Tuesday.’

GRISLY FIND: Glinks Gully resident Geoff Nicols points to the site where the skull was found. Source: Northern Advocate. Image may be subject to copyright.

Background information:

Tourist Catch of the Day: Severed Head, Torso

Tourists Find Severed Head and Torso in Northland, New Zealand. A pair of Australian tourists found a severed head and torso in the sand dunes near the entrance of Glinks Gully, about 20 kilometers south west of Dargaville, Northland, New Zealand.

However, the police, which seems to have decided that the headlines were bad for business, apparently forced the reporter(s) to change the headlines and certain parts of their story to make it sound as if the discovery of a severed head and dismembered torso was actually something completely different. The new Stuff NZ headline read: Skull found on Northland beach

NZ Herald echoed much of the same: Very old’ skull found on Northland beach

A “very old” human skull has been found on a beach south of Dargaville.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said the skull is being referred to a pathologist to find out when the person died.

She said the skull was found in the sand dunes in Glinks Gully, Te Kopuru, Northland.

As luck had it…

The two Australian tourists, Louisa and Michael Ergles, who discovered the severed head, read the new, amended headlines and apparently contacted the [advertising] media.

“I don’t think it would have been there longer than a year.”

NZ Police Interfere with News Coverage

    Posted by te2ataria on November 20, 2009

    Freedom of Press? My Foot!

Corrupt New Zealand police caught interfering with news coverage, AGAIN!

Yesterday this blog posted details of a severed head and torso discovery by two Australian tourists in Northland:

“Local camp ground operator Geoff Nicols says a pair of Australian tourists were shocked to spot a head poking up out of the sand and asked to use his phone to call police.” A report said.

The story, reported by ROSE STIRLING of Dargaville News, clearly quoted eye witness  Geoff Nicols as saying, “Australian tourists were shocked to spot a head poking up out of the sand…”

    Two points about the statement:

First, there’s no mention of a skull poking up out of sand. Most adult Australian would know the difference.

Second, this blogger has never met or heard of anyone, especially the Aussies,  being shocked by the discovery of a skull on a beach.

The original headline seemed perfectly adequate. Not least because it was factual:

“Head, torso found on Northland beach”

Here’s a screen shot of  a google search saved on November 20, 2009 at about 1:40GMT

However, the police, which seems to have decided that the headlines were bad for business, apparently forced the reporter(s) to change the headlines and certain parts of their story to make it sound as if the discovery of a severed head and dismembered torso was actually something completely different. The new Stuff NZ headline read:

    Skull found on Northland beach

[Note: The new version was not a regular update, but the reporter was made to re-write the story and then it was posted under the same URL: http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/3079423/Head-torso-found-on-Northland-beach. As of posting, the original version was no longer available from Stuff NZ website.]

NZ Herald echoed much of the same:

‘Very old’ skull found on Northland beach

A “very old” human skull has been found on a beach south of Dargaville.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said the skull is being referred to a pathologist to find out when the person died.

She said the skull was found in the sand dunes in Glinks Gully, Te Kopuru, Northland.

Asked if it could be a skull from pre-European colonisation, Ms Kennett said she could not say. [Amazing!]

    As luck had it…

The two Australian tourists, Louisa and Michael Ergles, who discovered the severed head, read the new, amended headlines and apparently contacted the [advertising] media.

Mr Ergles who is a search and rescue officer in his hometown of Lajamanu in the Northern Territory, Australia, said, “there was still a bit of flesh on the head when we found it.”

“I don’t think it would have been there longer than a year.”

Tourist Catch of the Day: Severed Head, Torso

    Posted by te2ataria on November 19, 2009

Tourists Find Severed Head and Torso in Northland, New Zealand

A pair of Australian tourists found a severed head and torso in the sand dunes near the entrance of Glinks Gully, about 20 kilometers south west of Dargaville, Northland, New Zealand.

“Local camp ground operator Geoff Nicols says a pair of Australian tourists were shocked to spot a head poking up out of the sand and asked to use his phone to call police.” A report said.

“There’s no public telephone around here so they came down to my house to ring the police station.”

Nicols says it took 45 minutes before a police officer contacted them, “No-one was answering the phone at the Dargaville police office.”

“I went and saw the head and stayed with it until the police arrived.

“There were bits of gristle and hair at the back of the skull,” says Mr Nicols.

“I reckon it would have been buried there a few years.”
[More recently dumped body parts take a while before they show up!]

“It was right up the top of the dune and I’m sure it must have been placed there.”

“It maybe that somebody disposed of the body in different places.”
[Doesn’t he know the drill well?]

Nichols thinks the find was unearthed when part of the dune was washed away by a large wave.

Dargaville Police Station is still unmanned, and therefore no-one was available for comment.
