More Spanish Blood Shed in New Zealand

Posted by te2ataria on December 23, 2009

Yesterday the blog reported:

The 1,759th and 1,760th Tourists to be killed in New Zealand since January 2000 were a European couple

Today it was revealed that the two tourists that were killed yesterday were Spaniards.

The victims were named as Eva Fajula Rovira, 34, and Joan Roma Serra, also 34.

They died at the scene of the crash near Towai, south of Kawakawa, Northland,  New Zealand yesterday.

It’s not known whether they could have been saved had the emergency arrived at the scene earlier.

Meanwhile …

A river rafting company was found guilty of failing to ensure the safety of its Norwegian trainee guide who drowned when his raft flipped on the Rangitikei River.

Tor Prestmo, 24, from Norway, drowned in October 2007 when his raft collided with another tourist raft.

The Maritime New Zealand laid 11 charges against , its director Brian Leadson Megaw and rafting manager Koryn John Gould under the Health and Safety in Employment Act.

River Valley Ventures Ltd, its director Brian Leadson Megaw and rafting manager Koryn John Gould were convicted on three charges of failing to ensure their employee’s safety.

But Mr Prestmo’s family will probably get zilch in compensation, unless they start a campaign to receive comparable compensation as that received by families of  Israeli citizens  who are killed in New Zealand.

Very interesting how in this case every expert witness said this was a case of bad luck and yet still a guilty verdict. Net result lots of New Zealand most experienced raft guides are now peddling their skills overseas as they dont feel Authorities want to listen
