Posted by te2ataria on September 11, 2010

Faulty Plane and/or Incompetent Pilot Kill 9, Including 4 Tourists, 1 Immigrant and 1 Aussie Instructor

Fletcher FU24  skydiving aircraft burst into flames shortly after takeoff near the Fox Glacier on New Zealand’s South Island killing all 9 people onboard.

New Zealand Death Clock started ticking for the 4 dead tourists the moment they booked their New Zealand holiday. They were among the 9 people killed when their skydiving plane crashed at an airstrip near Fox Glacier on the west coast of South Island.  Photo credit: Christchurch Press. Police named the dead tourists and others as

  • Glen Bourke, 18, from Melbourne, Australia
  • Annita Kirsten, 23, from Germany
  • Patrick Byrne, 26, from County Wexford, Ireland
  • Brad Coker, 24, from Farnborough, U.K.
  • Chaminda Senadhira, 33, [pilot]
  • Adam Bennett, 47, from Australia [skydiving instructor ]

Others Killed:

Michael Suter, 32, Christopher McDonald, 62, and Rodney Miller, 55, from Greymouth, NZ.

“The fatal crash was the third in the region in the past 17 years.

“In October 1993, nine people died in a plane crash when a twin-engine Nomad 22 crashed at nearby Franz Josef Glacier. In October 1994, seven people were killed when a Helicopter Line Squirrel helicopter on a sightseeing flight crashed in a mountainous area near Fox Glacier,” according to a report.

The dead tourists and the other 2 foreigners killed in the totally unnecessary crash were the 1,907th, 1,908th, 1,909th, 1,910th, 1,911th and  1,912th foreigners to be killed in New Zealand  since January 2000.

At least 1,912 tourists and immigrants have been Killed in NZ between  January 2000 and 3 September 2010

New Zealand occupies positions 1 to 7 of the world’s 10 Worst Holiday Destinations because…

  • Exposure to deadly chemicals
  • Exposure to viral infections
  • Unsanitary food, accommodation
  • Exposure to sewage contaminated beaches and waterways
  • Little or NO access to even rudimentary medical facilities in the case of record numbers of deadly road crashes, and inordinate number of deaths and near-fatal injuries caused by using defective equipment for climbing, tramping, paragliding, bungy jumping, skiing, canoeing, diving and all other mountain, snow, water sports and outdoor activities
  • Deadly roads!
  • Defective, old, poorly maintained rental cars, quad-bikes, jet skis, and all other sports equipment
  • Inadequate or NO supervision in venues where extreme sports are touted
  • [Unfit, unqualified instructors or otherwise those operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs]
  • Little or NO warning posted in dangerous  places and unsafe areas that pose a life threat, or serious injuries, to the visitors, but are invariably advertised as “popular hot spots” to lure unsuspecting foreign visitors

This was the love of my life, my partner Bradley. We were 6months into our world tour when this tragic accident happened. The preliminary report having been released and the full report expected in the new year it is so shocking and sickening to learn that this could have been prevented if Skydive NZ had operated as any other operator would have. They did not weigh they did not have correct balance. This was not even monitored by the CAA. Watch this space for the full report and you to will be shocked by what you read. NZ has the blood of so many innocent tourists on their hands due to their laid back, care free attitude with a ridiculous system in place called the ACC.

      Hayley,
You’re absolutely right. The system in place is pathetic, and the cow-boy operators prey on unsuspecting tourists like vultures…
Our thoughts are with you, and we wish you strength.

      Ps.
      Have you considered suing
      a) the negligent parties and
      b) those who prevented you from learning the truth about the dangers of tourism in New Zealand?

We have reliable information that senior NZ government officials secretly paid Chinese embassy several million dollars as compensation [“blood-money”] for families of the Christchurch earthquake victims.

Find a good [contingency-fee] lawyer in the US who could sue Google, NZ government, and WordPress for blocking/filtering information posted on this blog and thus preventing you and your deceased partner from making an informed decision about traveling to New Zealand and participating in unsafe adventure activities run by unprofessional/unsupervised/unlicensed/unregulated outlets that result in large number of tourist deaths each year.

    Here is the problem:

Civil Liability and making a claim in New Zealand

The legal jurisdiction of New Zealand operates a non fault liability scheme under the control of New Zealand Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). The ACC is a sole and compulsory provider of accident insurance for any injuries in New Zealand. The ACC scheme is administered on a no fault basis, this means that anyone, regardless of the way in which they incurred an injury, is eligible for coverage under the scheme, this extends to the personal representatives making claims for the deceased.
Due to the scheme’s no fault basis, claimants who have suffered personal injury do not have the right to sue an at fault party except for exemplary damages

They don’t tell you that when you enter New Zealand do they. (2.1Million tourists and 70,000 Skydivers).

    Chris,
NZ authorities and their media friends proactively prevent the stats of tourist deaths and injuries from being recorded/ reported/ publicized.
On average, 3 foreigners are being killed in New Zealand every 4 days so far this year. https://newzeelend.wordpress.com/killed-in-nz/
In addition to the inordinate number of deaths, thousands of tourists are permanently injured each year.
Punitive damages (exemplary damages) can also be brought against US-based companies participating in the information cover-up, which has led to so many preventable deaths and injuries.

Well if this is true where is the evidence apart from the blog? Otherwise this statement has no bite, I want to do something about this in the name of my son Brad

        Chris
The truth lies in the SIS budget, which is almost entirely used to suppress information.
We do our best to post what we can on this blog, but that only covers a tiny fragment of the events.
Care to share your story with our readers?

To the Sewell, Coker and Jordan Families and any other Family who has suffered a tragedy in New Zealand my sincere and deepest sympathies.
However please stop denigrating New Zealand and blaming our country for these sad and unfortunate accidents, having lived here for 54 years I have seen ever increasing safety rules and regulation impinging our own personal choices and while there may be errors made by people resulting in circumstances that have lead to these sad and tragic deaths there are sufficient regulations and safety rules in place for that purpose, The risks were known to the participants and personal responsibility is also a factor, for example if you get on a quad bike with out knowing how to ride it and obtaining a helmet then it has to be said the error is yours not mine, If you want to come to New Zealand and see our Beautiful Country take a Bus if you can’t drive safely on our roads, don’t get in small planes and helicopters if your not prepared to take a risk, don’t do bungy jumps, don’t go white water rafting, don’t go mountain climbing or tramping, jet boating, deep sea fishing or all the other adventure activities we are so famous for in fact you might be better off in Australia oh sorry no wait there you could get eaten by a crock while swimming bitten by a snake or red back spider, actually better if you stay home.

    Thanks

    Ben

      @ Ben
Your message is disingenuous. This blog has previously detailed most of the reasons why so many tourists are killed, disabled and/or permanently scarred while on their 100% NZ experience.
Here are some of those reasons:

New Zealand occupies positions 1 to 7 of the world’s 10 Worst Holiday Destinations because…
      • Exposure to deadly chemicals
