Posted by te2ataria on May 30, 2011

Magnitude 5.5 shook the East Coast earlier today

The earthquake was was centered about 30km south west of Ruatoria and was 70km deep, GNS Science said.

The quake hit at 12.42pm and would have been felt in the Gisborne and Bay of Plenty regions, Geonet said.

Gisborne resident described her fright:

“It shook for quite a while. I was thinking ‘oh is this going to be the beginning of a big one?’ because it was a quick sort of shake and then it settled down into a rock from side to side kind of movement.”

Do you live in Auckland Area?

Those of our brothers who live in top of the North Island, especially in the Auckland Region, and don’t have a pressing business to attend to, should take a very long holiday, preferably across the Tasman.
