Two More People Were Killed On New Zealand’s Death Roads

Police have finally named the 52-year-old man who was killed Wednesday morning after his car crashed into a power pole near Marton.

He was Macrae (Mac) De-Thierry, who lived in Marton, about 40 kilometres northwest of Palmerston North.

The crash occurred on Wellington Rd, south of the Rangitikei township, about 6.45am, according to a report.

Mr De-Thierry may have lost control of his vehicle after swerving to avoid a jogger, police has suggested.

Jogger Mark Richardson, a lawyer from Marton, said he did not cause the fatal car crash.

A few hours later, Margaret Patricia Hirst, 59, was killed near Halcombe, west of Feilding.

Police farce say they are baffled as to how how the crash happened, but the road was wet.
