Foreign nurses working in New Zealand report widespread and shocking racism

The issue’s emerged in preliminary results from an online survey of more than 2,000 people who’ve joined the New Zealand Nurses Organisation in the past five years.

Researcher Leonie Walker says the bulk of those new members are overseas trained, but the racism was also experienced by nurses trained in this country.
She says the racism is more commonly aimed at Asian and Indian nurses. (Newstalk ZB)

Asian immigrant here. that’s right. Immigrant. and I’ve had to deal with a lot of this racist crap including a whole lot of stereotypes and Pakeha practising ‘free speech’. stupid RWR pamphlets in my suburb etc. then you have assholes (sorry for swearing) saying these stereotypes are facts and we shouldn’t be so sensitive. in essence, let the racists get away with it. funny thing is, when you accuse people of being racist for perpetuating racist stereotypes and making offensive remarks – they really blow up and scream ‘we’re not racist! this is FREE SPEECH!’ this is a GREAT SITE by the way. continue slamming Pakeha privilege until everyone is aware. this sort of thing is probably sensitive to white people because they can’t get over the fact that they’re immigrants too, and they weren’t here first. New Zealand is definitely Maori land. before the europeans came out of europe in their colonial masses, new zealand, australia, south africa and the americas were NOT WHITE. they were inhabited by people of colour. remember that, privileged people. the past is not past.
