Four tourists killed near National Park, fifth visitor in life-threatening condition
Four Argentinian tourists in their 20s were killed and a fifth visitor, a Chilean, sustained life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision with a truck on State Highway 4 between Ohakune and National Park, just south of Erua in the central North Island about 10pm last night.
The Chilean tourist, 26, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and it was feared he would also not survive. The crash scene near National Park looked like a bomb had gone off, police said.
“It was the worst I ‘ve seen around here in 30 years.” said Colin Fredricksen, of Horopito Smash Palace Wreckers.
On average, 3 foreigners are killed in New Zealand every 4 days.
The four tourists were the 2,514th – 2,517th foreigners to be killed/ murdered in New Zealand since January 2000.

Body found in Alexandra Park in Mt Victoria, Wellington, has been identified
Police have confirmed that the body of a 39-year-old woman found on Monday (9 July) near a running track on Wellington’s Mt Victoria, is Sofia Helen Athanassiou, of Newtown.
The victim’s body was found by joggers near Alexandra Park in Mt Victoria around 11am on Monday.
A post mortem examination completed yesterday was allegedly inconclusive and police are still treating her death as unexplained, they said.
