M6.5 earthquake has damaged hundreds of buildings in Wellington: Eyewitness reports
The quake has damaged the parliament building and was felt as far north as Auckland.
There are reports of structural damage to building and power cuts in several Wellington suburbs. The airport authorities closed the airport temporarily. Train services were halted.
The damaging quake was centred about 30km east of Seddon, where large number of quakes have occurred since Friday.
