Man’s body found in Wellington Harbour

A man’s body was discovered floating in the middle of Wellington Harbour by a fishing vessel at 4.20pm today, said Wellington Maritime Police.

Police would not release further details until next of kin had been notified, but said: “At this stage we don’t know how he got there”.

Kayaker found floating in water near Westport

A 48-year-old kayaker was found floating in the water at Tauranga Bay near Westport today, said police.

He was found face down in the water about 30 metres from shore 5pm today.

He was the second Kayaker to die in three days.

Kayaker’s body found on beach

The body of a kayaker was found on a beach near the mouth of the Waiau River, Tuatapere.

The 51-year old male was reported missing at around 5:15 pm on Friday, 20 February 2015.

German woman still missing

A 25-year-old German tourist known as Tina has been missing for four days.

It is believed she had planned to walk to the Hope Arm hut, a report said.

Police has not yet been able to establish her identify, let alone finding what happened to her.

Child killed in head-on collision – 21 February

A five-year-old girl was killed Saturday night in a head-on collision near the Moeraki Boulders north of Dunedin.

The incident occurred on State Highway 1 north of the Moeraki Boulders turn-off, police said.

Four other people travelling with her were taken to Dunedin Public Hospital overnight with moderate to serious injuries.

Four more people in the second vehicle were taken to Oamaru Hospital.
