Man didn’t survive police hospitality

The man, aged 64, was arrested at around 8:00pm on Monday night and spent the night in a police cell (the Manukau Police Station Custody Unit), police said.

The man was found to be “unresponsive” during a check at 5:40am. He had been alone in the cell throughout the night, police insist.  [Does that mean even uncle Donald didn’t enter the cell?]

The victim was [conveniently] pronounced dead upon arrival of paramedics.

Man’s body recovered from Rotorua stream (Bay of Plenty of Deaths)

The body of a man found in a Rotorua stream earlier today (Tuesday, 26 May) has been recovered, said police. A post mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow to establish [guess?] cause of death.

Waikato road kill name released

The name of a driver who was killed a single vehicle crash on Marychurch Road, south of Hamilton last Friday has been released. The deceased was 39 year-old Mathew Whiu Morehu YORSTON, of Hamilton.

“On behalf of New Zealand Police we would like to offer our condolences to the family of Mr. YORSTON,” said police.  [Blog has so far been unable to establish link!]

Victim recovered near Rangitata River mouth named

Canterbury police have named the woman whose body was recovered near the mouth of the Rangitata River on Saturday evening as Jyoti Glenys Edith Lewis from Christchurch.

Ms Lewis was reported missing shortly before 6pm on Saturday (23 May 2015) when she did not return home from walking her dogs at the river mouth.  [The fate of her dogs not disclosed.]

Murdered Indian student named

The 22 year-old woman who was stabbed to death at a Queen St learning institute on Friday (22 May 2015) was Parmita Rani, from Punjab in India.

The victim had been studying in New Zealand since part way through 2013 and lived in Manurewa.  http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/murder-victim-named

A 22 year-old man is in Auckland Hospital suffering serious injuries sustained during the attack.

Boy remains in critical condition

The nine-year-old boy injured in an incident at Taradale Primary School in Hawke’s Bay on Monday remains in a critical condition in Auckland’s Starship Hospital.

Police confirm identity of body after reported missing 29 years ago

Wellington Police have identified human remains recovered earlier this year as those of a man who went missing in March 1986.  John Holmes Smith had left his home in Kenya Street, Ngaio on the 20th March 1986 for a short walk.
