The man, aged 64, was arrested at around 8:00pm on Monday night and spent the night in a police cell (the Manukau Police Station Custody Unit), police said.

The man was found to be “unresponsive” during a check at 5:40am. He had been alone in the cell throughout the night, police insist.  [Does that mean even uncle Donald didn’t enter the cell?]

The victim was [conveniently] pronounced dead upon arrival of paramedics.
