Fatal Crash in Waikato

Police have sealed off the main road of state highway 39 at the southern end of Pirongia after being called to a fatality involving a truck and a pedestrian.  It appears a person on the highway was struck by two heavy trucks travelling north and passing through Pirongia. A body has been found in the Waikato River near Huntly, police said

Ex-Wairoa’s sportsperson of the year killed in ATV crash

Jamie Scott van der Kuijl, 25, a young martial arts sportsman was killed yesterday after the four-wheel-drive ATV vehicle he was driving rolled down a steep bank.

“The accident happened at 3.30pm when the ATV Mr van der Kuijl was driving went off a farm track and plunged 15 to 20 metres down a steep bank,” said Manutuke police.

“The vehicle rolled several times as it went down the bank and Mr van der Kuijl and a 17-year-old passenger were both thrown from it as it rolled.”

“Mr van der Kuijl died at the scene,” police said.
