Body found by burnt car in Lower Hutt park

From “murder-mystery” to “suspicious” to “unexplained death” to “not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident” in one sentence.

“Police investigating how a body next to a burning car came to be in a Wellington park this morning say they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.”

They said earlier they believed they had  identified the body, which was found just outside the driver’s door of the burnt-out car.

The police statement was issued within minutes of arriving at the scene and despite the fact that “even usually identifiable features of the car – such as number plates – were unrecognisable”.

One person was killed in a two-vehicle fatal crash near Palmerston North. The incident happened at the intersection of Roberts Line and Newbury Line in Palmerston North.

    Dear God. I could move to New Zealand and sell hazard insurance, or car- fire insurance. You take care down there. Sounds like staying indoors is a good bet.
