At least eight people were killed after 4 crashes in just over 8 hours, between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
Additionally, a man in his 30s, and father of three young children, was killed in a car crash near State Highway 12 close to the Northland town of Rawene on Monday night.

Since then there have been three days where nine people have died and six days that have claimed the lives of eight people, including the past 24 hours.
