Fonterra powder silo explodes, tearing open a milk silo, rupturing pipes and destroying infrastructure
A powder silo at the Fonterra plant in Edendale has exploded and collapsed on itself, a fire service spokesman says.
A source said the explosion happened in the D4 silo and a small part of a building has collapsed, rupturing some pipes on the way.
The collapse also tore open a milk silo with a capacity of 250,000 litres, leaking milk across the site. http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/farming/84347939/fire-service-called-to-edendale-fonterra-plant
Another major fuck-up, exactly a month ago…
On August 16, massive quantities of hazardous waste were spilled at the same Southland plant, which is New Zealand’s most outdated factory.
“It was established in 1881 by entrepreneurs William Davidson and Thomas Brydone. Through their dairy industry nous and agricultural know-how they become the first dairy factory to export cheddar cheese and butter to markets around the world,” according to Fonterra.
