What really happened to Aryan Banerje?
Aryan Banerjee, a 9-year-old Indian schoolboy who was critically injured after he was “left hanging by his shirt from a school toilet window” in May last year, died several months later in Hawke’s Bay Hospital .
Aryan had been in an induced coma after he was nearly strangled on May 25 and had suffered significant brain damage.
Aryan had gone to use one of the Taradale school’s toilets at around 1pm. But at some stage the toilet door had been worked on, and its handles had been removed.
After closing the door, Aryan had no way of reopening it, so he jumped out of the window.
The school caretaker, who has been awarded name suppression (!), says he removed the toilet door handle just before lunchtime (!) to repair the lock.
Pig farmer and Coronor Tim Scott is hearing the inquest. He said he would provide lawyers a draft decision next week… Photo: WARWICK SMITH/FAIRFAX NZ
