Truck driver killed in Whakatane
One person was killed after a truck rolled on Thornton Road in Whakatane at approximately 12:30pm today, police said. The truck is believed to have hit another vehicle before rolling. Two fatal crashes in Far North
Two pedestrian were killed in two separate crashes in the Far North overnight. The first occurred at 1:16am on Pa Road, Kerikeri. The male pedestrian was killed.

Fatal crash in Christchurch
One person was killed in a single vehicle crash in Christchurch Saturday evening. The crash occurred just after 9pm on Downs Road, Spotswood. The driver of the car was found dead. http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/police-attend-fatal-crash-christchurch
The reported holiday road toll is now six higher than the whole of last year’s holiday period, with three more days to go.
At least 8 people [the reported cases only] have sustained critical injuries in road crashes over the period, so far.
Worst holiday road toll before censorship began
The worst holiday road toll on record, before the official censorship of “sensitive data reporting” began, was 1972/73, when 37 people were killed on our death roads.

‘Sudden Death’ of a Well-liked Doctor
Dr. Chris Cresswell, acting head of Whanganui Hospital’s emergency department, was found dead next to his mountain bike on Saturday.
In September 2015, a senior doctors’ union “condemned an ‘outrageous’ move by Whanganui District Health Board to summon a hospital doctor to a disciplinary meeting over his [Dr Cresswell’s] part in a protest against the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.”
“He was also politically active and a member of the Green Party. He was a major player in raising awareness of climate change, and publicly opposed and demonstrated against the Trans Pacific Partnership and seabed mining.”
Female body washed up on private beach in Hawke’s Bay
