The dead Chinese [slave] worker didn’t even speak English
A Chinese man who was a “seasonal worker” [slave worker without rights] had just finished work on a Central Otago orchard when he was killed close to his seasonal-workers’ shack.
The victim, who came from Hong Kong, was hit by a car on State Highway 8, near Airport Rd, about 5.45pm on Thursday, said a report.
He was at least the third Chinese national to be killed on New Zealand roads in under two weeks.
