Another severe earthquake rattles Wellington and the upper South Island

Another “severe” earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude and centred 15 kilometres east of Seddon has shaken Wellington and the upper South Island.

The severe shock was felt by thousands of people across the lower North Island, and throughout the South Island, Geonet said.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 11 kilometres, at 1.19pm on Wednesday, jolting office workers across the capital.

Today’s quake follows another severe shock , measuring 5.3 magnitude, which hit 20 km south-west of Seddon five days ago.

On December 29, another severe shock measuring magnitude 5.5  struck in the same area, rocking Central New Zealand.
