Typhoid outbreak: 10 hospitalized after consuming food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person

Typhoid fever is a serious systemic infection caused by the enteric pathogen Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi. S. Typhi is spread by the faecal–oral route. That’s consuming food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

About 4% of the infections end fatally.

A woman and and a man were killed in a serious crash on State Highway One near Riverside Road, East Taieri-Allanton, Dunedin, police said.  “The crash occurred at about 3am this morning and involved a head-on collision between a car and a truck. The second deceased person is the male driver of the car.”
