Fatal crash in Maungatapere, Northland – Name release
The woman who was killed in the single car crash on State Highway 14 at Maungatapere yesterday (December 23) was Fijian national Lalita Devi. She was a passenger in the car, police said. [What exactly happened to the driver?]

Malaysian student killed in Mt Somers fall [Canterbury]
The Malaysian student who was killed in a fall at Mt Somers on Friday 22 December was Calvin Lim, 29, police said.

Malaysian student Calvin Lim, 29, was killed in a tragic, but most probably avoidable, fall at Mt Somers on Friday. Mr Lim was a PhD student in chemical and process engineering at the University of Canterbury.

Person killed in Central Hawke’s Bay crash
Sunday, 24 December 2017 – 7:28am – Eastern
Person was killed in a crash on Pourerere Road in Central Hawke’s Bay this morning. Emergency services were notified at 5.35am that a vehicle had rolled down a bank. The passenger was killed and the driver sustained injuries.

Driver killed in Hanmer Springs crash
Sunday, 24 December 2017 – 6:04am – Canterbury
A driver was killed and a passenger sustained serious injuries in an overnight crash in Hanmer Springs. “The single-vehicle crash occurred at around 12.40am on Jollies Pass Road, when the car collided with a tree.”
The passenger passenger was transported to hospital by helicopter, but their condition is a police secret.

Man killed on 21st birthday in Hanmer Springs crash
A young man died on his 21st birthday after losing control of his car on Jollies Pass Rd, Hanmer Springs about 12.40am on Sunday. “He turned 21 [years old] 40 minutes before the crash – it was his birthday,” Canterbury cop Pete Cooper said, adding that the victim was an Indian national on a work visa. Fatal crash near Rotorua
Sunday, 24 December 2017 – 11:20pm [Bay of Plenty of Deaths]
Three cars were involved in fatal crash on State Highway 5, near Rotorua.
A woman, possibily a foreign tourist, was killed. She was driving one of the cars.
“The driver and passenger in the second car involved have serious injuries, and the driver of the third car involved has minor injuries. All three have been take to Rotorua Hospital.”
