NZ ranks 33 out of 38 for inequality in education –Unicef report

“An Unfair Start: Inequality in Children’s Education in Rich Countries”

New Zealand has one of the most unequal education systems in the world, according a new global report released by Unicef.

The report ranks NZ at 33 out of 38 for inequality in education, based on global data from different reports looking at education from early education to secondary school.

The report analyzes  the gap in children’s access to tuition – in the context of income and education.


Lack of household income [poverty,] contributed to the  inequality, Unicef director of child rights Andre Whittaker said.
