British tourist killed by drowning at Ocean Beach, Tairua

Sunday, 24 February 2019 – 4:52pm  – Waikato

A tourist from the United Kingdom was killed by drowning at Ocean Beach in Tairua on Sunday, police have reluctantly revealed on Tuesday [police report backdated to allow the news being buried.]

The victim was Andrew Massey from Kent, England.

Fatal crash near Whakatane
Tuesday, 26 February 2019 – 2:17pm – [Bay of Plenty of Fatalities]
At least one person was killed in a serious crash on State Highway 2 West in Pikowai near Whakatane, police said.
“Emergency services received reports that a truck and car had collided around 1:50pm near Hauone and Pikowai Roads. […] Initial information suggests other people may be injured.”

Three killed in violent crash near Whakatane

Tuesday, 26 February 2019 – 3:39pm [Bay of Plenty of Multiple Fatalities]

“Emergency services were notified around 1:50pm that a car and truck had collided… on State Highway 2 in Pikowai near Whakatane.”

“It has now been confirmed that four seperate [sic] vehicles were involved in the crash.”

At least three people were killed in the violent crash.

Tuesday, 26 February 2019 – 6:36am – Central
At least one person was killed in a violent crash involving a truck and a car on State Highway 1 (Mataroa Road) near Taihape.
“It happened about 1km north of the town just before 4:30am.”
