Queen’s Birthday road toll: at least 12 people killed, but only six fatalities reported by police/ media

At least 12 people have been killed over the Queen’s Birthday weekend, as of posting, according to insiders within the police.

At least 64 others were seriously injured, 8 of them critically.

However, police have only reported six of the fatalities publicly:

Fatal crash, Port Waikato
Monday, 3 June 2019 – 4:14pm – Counties Manurkau
“Emergency services are at the scene of a single motorbike crash near Port Waikato. It happened just before 2:30pm on Tuakau Bridge-Port Waikato Road, about 10km north of Port Waikato.

“The passenger on the motorbike has died at the scene, and the rider is in a moderate condition and was taken to Middlemore Hospital.”

Update: Serious crash, West Melton
Monday, 3 June 2019 – 6:40am – Canterbury

“One person has died following the serious crash about 9.50pm last night on West Coast Road, West Melton, in the Selwyn district.

Another person was transported to hospital in a critical condition.”

Update: Serious crash, Papatoetoe
Monday, 3 June 2019 – 10:36am – Counties Manukau

“Police can confirm one person has died following the serious crash on Great South Road, Papatoetoe, which occurred about 9.51am today.

“The road is expected to remain closed for some time while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.”

Fatal crash, Waitaki District: Motorcyclist was violently killed.
Sunday, 2 June 2019 – 12:31pm – Canterbury

A fatal crash on Waimate Highway, involving a car and motorcycle, happened north of Waitaki Bridge around 11.50am.

The motorcyclist was violently killed.

“Fleeing driver”murdered by police in pursuit

At 10:08pm Police pursued a vehicle, whose driver had been marked for extra-judicial execution by police, on Hill Road, Manurewa.

After a short period of time the vehicle was shunted by the pursing police car(s), and the victim lost control of the vehicle, fatally crashing into a tree.

The driver and “single occupant” of the vehicle was violently killed in the crash.

About 80 percent of police pursuits end in fatality, or serious injury and/or substantial property damage.

“A further 36 people were seriously injured and 122 people received minor injuries over the three-day break,” media reported.

Tuesday, 4 June 2019 – 3:33pm – Canterbury
Two people were killed in a violent crash in Methven today.
“They were occupants of a car which was involved in a crash with a truck at the intersection of SH 77 / Waimarama Road and SH 72 in Methven.”
“The driver of the truck sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by helicopter to hospital.”

“Truck driver’s body found on opposite side of highway to crashed vehicle”

“Investigations are underway to establish how the body of a truck driver came to be on the opposite side of the road to his crashed rig.”
