Police question second person after the death of family in the Fijian highlands

A Kiwi man, Muhammad Raheesh Isoof, 62, known as  “healer”, was arrested earlier this week in relation to the mysterious deaths of a family of five people in Fiji, a report quoted a Fiji police spokesperson as saying.

A second person, a woman known to both the family and the healer, had also been questioned, The Fiji Times reported.

“The family of five, Nirmal Kumar, 63, his wife Usha Devi, 54, their daughter Nileshni Kajal and her two daughters Sana, 11, and Samara, 8, were found dead on Monday in Nadi, western Fiji after ingesting a toxic substance, post mortem results showed.” Read more…

New Zealander Shane Billingham found dead at desert festival Burning Man

Kiwi Shane Billingham was reportedly killed from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at desert festival Burning Man in Nevada.

“The death 33-year-old, from Great Barrier Island, has been deemed suspicious by investigating US authorities,” a report said.

Burning Man is a 9-day event held annually at Black Rock City, a temporary city erected in the Black Rock Desert of northwest Nevada, about 160 km north-northeast of Reno.

Billingham was only the second person to be killed in the festival’s 33-year history.

The [eighth] New Zealander killed at the Isle of Man TT

“Chris Swallow was the [eighth] Kiwi to be killed at the Isle of Man TT motorcycle event,” a report said.

The 37-year-old from Wellington lost his life after a crash in the Senior Classic TT race on Saturday (local time).

Eight Australians are also among more than 270 people killed at Isle of Man TT since 1907. [Australia is FIVE times more populous than NZ.]

Starting August 1972, some 161 bikers have been killed at the venue. The motorbikes involved in the deadly crashes include Yamaha (65), Honda (28), Suzuki (28), Kawasaki (7), BMW (5), Norton (4), Aermacchi (3), Matchless (3), AJS (2), Ducati (2), and EMC (2).
