Name release: Fatal paragliding crash
Police can now release the name of the woman who died following a paraglider crash in Selwyn yesterday.
She was 37-year-old Trudi Meij, a South African national living in Christchurch.
Her death has been referred to the Coroner.

Previous paragliding deaths in NZ

A 24-year-old male. He was transported by helicopter to the emergency department at Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries in July 2018. His fate remains unknown.

Dozens of other paragliding incidents resulting in death or critical/serious injuries are posted on the internet.

Chilean student killed in NZ named

“A Chilean student who died in a crash on a rural property in Mid-Canterbury was gaining work experience on a farm after completing her agriculture studies.

It is understood Rocio Atencio Salazar, 19, was driving on a property on Ealing Rd in Coldstream, near Ashburton, around 1pm on Saturday when the crash happened. ”

    Canterbury paragliding crash victim killed two weeks after move to NZ
    Trudi Meij, 37, died in the Mt Cheeseman ski area near Castle Hill in Canterbury about 1.45pm on Tuesday.
    Husband Philip Jansen van Rensburg said Meij, who had been paragliding for the last six years and flown more than 600 times, was with four other pilots on the fatal flight.
