Two Chinese tourists receive ‘traumatic injuries’ in serious Queenstown bus crash

23 Chinese nationals were injured in a bus crash near Queenstown that left a woman and a girl maimed for life, a report said.

“The bus, carrying a Chinese tour group, crashed on an ‘acute bend’ shortly after 1.45pm on Tuesday on Glenorchy-Queenstown Rd, south of Closeburn Rd.

“Twenty-three people, including the driver, were on board. All of them were Chinese nationals. St John staff treated 20 for injuries.

Stuff understands a woman lost an arm and a girl both her hands in the crash. The woman was flown to Dunedin Hospital and the girl to Christchurch Hospital.

Recently Killed or Critically Injured in and around Queenstown 

Sri Lankan national Lochana Kulasiri was critically injured in a multiple-vehicle crash in Queenstown on January 11.

“Noelene Tait on her 84th birthday, Christmas Day 2019. She was killed in a car crash on January 14.”

At least five Chinese tourists were violently killed and seven others seriously/critically injured when a tour bus with 27 people on board rolled on State Highway 5 in Ngatira near Rotorua on September 4, last year.

Name release – Mt Earnslaw fall death
Police are now able to name the man who died following a fall on Mt Earnslaw on Saturday 18 January.
He was Paul James Laurie, 61, [who lived in] Brooklyn, Tasman. [Nationality undisclosed.]
Initial indications are that Mr Laurie died of his injuries after he fell while hunting north of the Kea Basin on Mt Earnslaw.

A body has been recovered after a person fell on Mount Earnslaw yesterday.
Police received the report at 4pm, although the fall is understood to have happened earlier in the afternoon.
The body was located near Earnslaw Hut about 8:20pm.

Machine gun bunker finally put to good use!

A World War II machine gun bunker built in 1942 “as part of New Zealand’s coastal defences” [or was it to stop the Ottoman Empire!?] on the beach at Plimmerton, Porirua, is being used by dog walkers to dump their plastic poop bags, a report said.
