Israeli visitor’s body located in Whanganui River search

“Police have this afternoon located a body in the Whanganui River.

“While formal identification is yet to take place, police believe it is the man who failed to surface near Upokongaro yesterday.

“His body was located in the Mosquito Point area.

“Police will release the name of the man, a 24-year-old Israeli national, as soon as all family notifications have taken place,” police said.

“One person [most probably a foreign visitor] has died following a diving incident near Whangarei today.
“About 12.25pm Police received a report of a diver having failed to surface off the coast of Taiharuru.
“The diver was found deceased about 1.20pm.”

Update: Mataura fatal crash
The crash occurred at around 5pm.
The driver of the crashed car and the front seat passenger were both injured in the crash.
They were transported to Dunedin and Invercargill respectively for medical treatment.
Tragically, the two rear seat passengers died at the scene.

Two killed, two seriously injured in a violent crash near Mataura

Two have people were killed an d two others seriously injured in a violent crash on State Highway 1 near Mataura, in rural Southland, a report said.
“It brings the day’s road death toll to four, after a two-car crash at 2pm, near Karapiro, left one person dead, while a crash in Kaitaia at 6am killed the sole occupant of a car after it left the road and hit a tree.”
