–    Korean [Chinese?] student Kevin Kum Fike Lee identified as one of the two people found dead on the Makarora River  [Wednesday, 12 February 2020 ]
Name release – Makarora River death –  Police can now confirm the identity of one of the two people found dead on the Makarora River, on Saturday 8 February.  He was 22-year-old Kevin Kum Fike Lee, who reportedly lived in Dunedin. The Otago University student was one of at least two people whose bodies were found in the Makarora River in Mt Aspiring National Park by members of public at the weekend. The ID of his female companion whose body was also found in the river has not been revealed as of February 20.]

One dead after water incident at Karioitahi Beach
One person has died in a water incident at Karioitahi Beach, southwest of Auckland.
Emergency services were called to the beach about 7.15pm on Sunday, after three people got into difficulty in the water.

Person died in water incident, Ohope Beach
“Emergency services are at Ohope Beach following an incident this afternoon.
“Police were called to the area about 3.50pm after a person was pulled unresponsive from the water. That person has since died.”

 –   Missing swimmer’s body found in Whanganui River – Jan 27 2020
The body of a man missing in the Whanganui River since Sunday afternoon has been found.
Police will release the name of the man, a 24-year-old Israeli national, as soon as family have been notified. [That was 18 days ago!]

Body located in Karekare
The Police Dive Squad has located the body of a man who went missing while at a swimming hole in Karekare.
The man will now need to be formally identified and next-of-kin notified, many of whom are overseas. [Eye witnesses confirmed that the young man was a Korean national.]
[“A woman staying nearby said a young Korean man went into the water and disappeared. She was upset and said she’d known the man for a week.“]

Body located in Whanganui River search
Police have this afternoon located a body in the Whanganui River.
While formal identification is yet to take place, police believe it is the man who failed to surface near Upokongaro yesterday.
His body was located in the Mosquito Point area.
Police will release the name of the man, a 24-year-old Israeli national, as soon as all family notifications have taken place.

One dead following motorcycle crash in Mackenzie

One person has died following a crash on State Highway 79 the Geraldine-Fairlie Highway at Middle Valley in the Mackenzie.


The Australian woman who road-murdered school girl Charlotte-Rose Clark-Ware in May 2019, and herself killed in the head-on collision, has never been identified.

Police are responding to an incident on the Northwestern Motorway, which was reported shortly before 3.15pm.
A person has fallen from the Hobsonville Road overbridge onto the motorway and has died.

Diver dies near Channel Island

Police received a report around 12.30pm today that a diver was unresponsive in the water near Channel Island.
The report was made by the diver’s buddy after removing him from the water and into a boat.

Tourist dies from injuries sustained on Moutohora Island
An unidentified tourist on a guided tour of Whale Island in Bay of Plenty “fell” and died from unspecified injuries in Tauranga Hospital the next day (April 5), a report said.

In November 2016, an unnamed male French tourist was killed while hiking on Banks Peninsula.

A 31-year-old Italian tourist was killed in a head-on collision with a big “stock” truck that reduced his vehicle [described as a van] to the size of a suitcase. As per usual, the police has not released the victim’s name. See hundreds of other nameless victims on this page. [May 12, 2009]

Between January 1, 2010 and April 11, 2010, at least 68 foreigners have been murdered, killed or otherwise lost their lives in New Zealand. Up to 200 other foreigners have been seriously injured, many of them critically.
