About 4,500 overseas visitors, international students, foreign workers, recent emigrants and refugees have lost their lives and more than 30,000 others seriously injured in New Zealand between January 2000 and 2018.

The above statistics have been available for several years. We have regularly posted on this website the numbers of fatalities and serious injures sustained by foreigners visiting this country. Body of tourist found, Nelson Lakes

The body of a tourist who was killed in the Nelson Lakes National Park, one of NZ’s Top Ten  Tourist Deathtraps, was found in snow near an alpine route, police has said.

UPDATED: The victim was 25-year-old Chien Han Chee of Malaysia, police said.

He had been on a solo trip in the Mt Robert range, near St Arnaud, reports said.

Two [Tourists] killed by drowning at Muriwai Beach
Two people, believed to be European tourists, were swept off rocks at Muriwai Beach in West Auckland around 2pm today, police said.
The couple, a male and a female, were said to be in their forties.

Nelson forestry claims yet another life
A man was killed in an undisclosed forestry incident in Nelson today, police said.
The victim was fatally injured in the forestry area, off Trass Valley Road, and died later.

Indian dairy owners targeted again
Wednesday, 20 June 2018 – Auckland City
“At approximately 7.15pm last evening one male offender, armed with a knife, entered the dairy and waited until a customer left the store before walking behind the counter with a knife and without warning attacked the owner.
Family members tried to intervene at which stage a 62-year-old woman was stabbed and assaulted. The offender then fled from the dairy towards Turangi Road.
Two people received serious injuries and have undergone surgery and are in a stable condition in hospital. The victims are related and are a mother and her adult son.”

“Christchurch Police are investigating the aggravated robbery of a petrol station on Blenheim Road.
At around 4.40am four men entered the store armed with hammers and a crow bar.
They threatened the store attendant and stole cigarettes and tobacco products.
The store attendant was not injured, but is shaken by the incident and is being supported by Police.”
