A man has been killed in an incident involving a bulldozer at Hukarere Station in West Otago. Police still do not know the identity of a man whose body was found dumped by a remote Canterbury road.  A group of Filipino fishermen found the victim’s body in Drain Rd, Doyleston, about 40 kilometres south of Christchurch, on Monday.


Stairway to Heaven claims a Kiwi

Derek Bunting, 60, died  on the Paekakariki Escarpment Track  (Te Araroa Trail), also known as the “Stairway to Heaven” on Monday evening.

Monday’s death is understood to be the second reported fatality on the Te Araroa Trail since it opened in 2011.

“In December 2013, British radiographer Andrew Wyatt became the first person to die on the trail when he was found face down in Lake Constance in Nelson Lakes National Park. It’s believed he tripped and fell.”

French Tourists beaten, robbed in carpark

Two more French tourists will be leaving New Zealand with sickening memories after they were the victims of a violent robbery.

“The Dargaville incident was one of four aggravated robberies in Northland since the start of last week. Whangarei police were investigating a series of robberies targeting Tikipunga Super Liquor, Otangarei’s Jack St dairy and the Water St Domino’s Pizza. All three occurred between April 13 and 20 and involved offenders wielding weapons including knives.”

Andrew Wyatt was alive and well when he arrived in NZ

Body found in Nelson Lakes National Park believed to be that of English tourist Andrew Wyatt

Searchers looking for British tramper Andrew Wyatt have recovered a body in Nelson Lakes National Park, believed to be the missing tramper.

The body is yet to be formally identified, police said.

The body was found at the foot of a 100 metre precipice below the Lake Constance Bluff, which was the 41-year-old’s intended route. He had been missing for 12 days.

Mr Wyatt, from Cornwall, arrived in New Zealand on November 21 and was last seen on December 15 at Blue Lake Hut.

Mr Wyatt had intended to walk the 3,000-kilometre (1,900-mile) Te Araroa Trail, yet another tourist deathtrap, which runs along the entire length of the New Zealand, when he went missing.
