Demanding Answers: How many killed in Arthur’s Pass 70m “horror plunge” 2013

Posted by te2ataria on July 9, 2019

How many really killed, who were they?

Here’s what’s alleged to have happened, according to various media citing police reports:

  • September 1, 2013. A group of young people, aged 16 to 22, were driving to Christchurch when their van plunged more than 70 metres down a cliff in the central South Island yesterday, killing [only] one of the six occupants.

Five people survived the crash! Really?

A 70m plunge down a cliff is a survivable crash??? One woman was killed and the five other occupants injured when their van crashed in Arthur’s Pass. Photo credit: STACY SQUIRES/Fairfax NZ

  • Their van rolled down a steep bank before coming to rest on the railway track off State Highway 73, the West Coast Rd, between the township of Cass and Bealey Spur.
  • A Canterbury District Health Board spokeswoman said a female and male were in critical condition in the intensive care unit, while two males and a female were in a stable condition in Christchurch Hospital’s emergency department.”

However, others reported the casualties differently:

  • The Sunday Star-Times was told by police that a female teenager had been killed while, “two males are critically ill in Christchurch Hospital, and the three remaining occupants – one male and two female were also last night being treated there and were in stable conditions.”

The Otago Daily Times dated the fatal incident October 2, 2013, 31 days later! [AMF]

Regardless of their gender, the two people who sustained critical injuries [and the remaining three who presumably sustained survivable injuries] were never identified and have since vanished without a trace!

Further, their identities were never released [to the best of our knowledge.]

We demand to know who the five “injured” were and what happened to them!

“The teenager who died after the van she was travelling in plunged down a bluff on a South Island alpine highway on Saturday was a young mum.

Faith Maree Wood, 18, of Christchurch, was a passenger in a van which tumbled 60 metres off State Highway 73 onto railway tracks near Arthur’s Pass about 6am.”

Ms Wood was the first of two women killed in separate crashes on the same alpine highway yesterday [Sep 1, 2013.]

Tracy Ann Shipston, 39, also of Christchurch, was violently killed when her vehicle struck a tour bus head-on near Porters Pass in the foothills of the Southern Alps about 5.30pm.

Unidentified Russian hiker killed in Arthur’s Pass

An unidentified Russian visitor was reportedly killed on a “difficult and dangerous” ridge in the notorious Arthur’s Pass, one of NZ’s top ten tourist deathtraps.

The victim’s body was found last Sunday morning (April 14) about 2 kilometres north of Crow Hut.

Police said they haven’t been able to contact his family.

Russian man killed during standoff with police

Blog moderators believe the victim was fatally shot by the NZ police assassination squad [aka, “Armed Offenders Squad”.] However, police want you to believe he committed suicide [presumably, with an imitation pistol!!!]

“Troy Dubovskiy, 54, [aka, Artemiy Dubovsky,] who once served in the Russian army, died early Wednesday morning during a three-hour standoff with police after officers searched his Christchurch home on Tuesday.

“Police Commissioner Mike [frigging] Bush told media police found a number of [imitation] firearms at the property and Dubovskiy, who was later located in the Richmond Park area [Christchurch] about 12.30am on Wednesday when his vehicle was stopped.

“The Police Negotiation Team spoke with the man over a number of hours. The police helicopter and Armed Offenders Squad were in support during the negotiations.

“At around 3.40am police approached the vehicle and discovered the man critically injured,” Bush was reported as saying.

“pretty soon he will get shot by the police” –victim’s lawyer

In December 1999, Dubovskiy was jailed for six months for possessing two imitation pistols, driving while disqualified, and assaulting a police officer. He told police he found the guns in Hagley Park. At the police station he grabbed and tried to choke a constable.

Counsel Michael Knowles told the court at the time Dubovskiy was more a danger to himself than anyone else, because “pretty soon he will get shot by the police”.

Dubovskiy was dressing in military garb and carrying imitation firearms, usually made of plastic. He was often in a vehicle when he was in such clothing.

Judge David Holderness said Dubovskiy was becoming a problem for the Christchurch community, particularly in relation to carrying and allegedly presenting imitation pistols.

As he left the dock after sentencing, Dubovskiy said: “Let me go home. I want to go back to my country.”

French victims survive Australia, only to lose at ‘NZ Roulette’

Remi Morilleau, 27, was killed in a three-car crash in Northland on Christmas Day just hours after arriving in New Zealand.

The victim, a native of Nantes, had arrived in Auckland from Melbourne with his partner on Christmas Day.

“The tourist’s partner and the driver of another car suffered serious injuries and two children were treated for minor injuries after the crash on State Highway 1 near Whangarei about 6.45pm on Christmas Day,” according to a report.

Frenchman Remi Morilleau, 27, of Nantes, who was killed on his first day of a holiday in New Zealand, was reportedly the son of the Bernard Morilleau, the mayor of Sainte-Pazanne, a small town southwest of Nantes. The crash occurred just north of where an Englishman was killed in a head-on collision near the intersection of Totara Rd and SH1 at Oakleigh on November 4, within 10 hours of arriving in NZ.

Based on the information received from our friends throughout the country and the blog’s statistical model, the moderators believe at least 1,280 crashes have occurred on NZ roads, resulting in about 40 fatalities and at least 650 injuries, since the official holiday road monitoring period began at 4pm on 24 December.

[The perfidious police say only six people have been killed on the roads since Christmas Eve!!! According to their latest figures, only 321 people have died on the roads so far this year. In reality, the road toll is not much different from the 1980s when about 800 were killed each year. They have been doctoring the figures since to show much lower fatalities.]

Teen missing in ice shelf presumed dead

Posted by te2ataria on September 15, 2009

Missing 18-yo student named as Edward Sai Louie

The missing student who allegedly fell through an ice shelf on Mt Rolleston near Arthur’s Pass on Saturday , was named as Edward Sai Louie.

Police said a friend who was skiing with Mr Sai Louie did not want to be named, and presumably is not a suspect in a possible foul play, either.

“About 5pm, while Mr Sai Louie and his friend were descending from the Low Peak of Mt Rolleston, he is believed to have fallen through the ice after shouting out to his friend for help.” A report said.

The Mt Cook Rescue Team [sic] abandoned its half-hearted search plan Sunday night, while “police said earlier attempts to get to the area where the man went missing were hampered because of a high risk of causing an avalanche.”

Don’t these people suck big time?

While tobacco companies are made to put warning signs on their products in most countries, New Zealand govt has exempted itself from warning ski enthusiasts about the deadly perils of skiing on or climbing Southern Alps.
