Aussie snowboarder dies at Coronet Peak (5 August 2019)
The 42-year-old Australian was discovered lying in the snow by four other mountain users about 11.35am. Cause of death has not been revealed.
New Zealand coroner’s office has confirmed the identity of the man as Chris Musgrave, of Angourie in northern NSW.

American tourist killed while skiing on Mt Aspiring (Sep 22, 2018)
American citizen, 35, was killed skiing from on Mt Aspiring. David Andrew Dec, 35, fell and was fatally injured while skiing alongside a friend toward the Bonar Glacier on Mt Aspiring at about 1.30pm on Saturday.

Skier who died in Mt Ruapehu crater lake was a hero who saved child [Oct 2, 2017]
Richard Ebbett, 39, of Taupo was found by searchers in the lake near the top of Mt Ruapehu on Saturday morning.  Police said the indications are that he fell into the lake.

Colorado Skier Killed In NZ (October 7, 2015)
“Skier Jeffrey Charles Atkinson, 22, took a 1,500 foot (500 meter) fall in icy conditions while backcountry skiing and died on New Zealand’s South Island on Monday, October 5, 2015. The incident took place in the backcountry near Treble Cone ski area – a ski resort near Wanaka, New Zealand.”
Atkinson came from Littleton, Colorado. RIP.

He was killed after sliding down a deep ravine into rocks in New Zealand’s mountainous back country.  “The 29-year-old technician, who was holidaying in the South Island with friends, had taken his snowboard off to climb the side of Tarn Basin, behind the Mt Cheeseman Ski Area, near Christchurch, when he slipped.”

Stan Siejka, a 51-year-old Tasmanian neurologist, died yesterday morning in Christchurch Hospital’s intensive care unit after a fall at the Porters ski area near Canterbury on Wednesday.

Jonathan Morgan, 38, had a narrow brush with death three weeks before being killed by an avalanche in the Ragged Range near Methven. He was killed on Friday, 14 August 2009.

Ryan Manu Campbell, 30, was killed by an avalanche while snowboarding with friends outside the Coronet Peak ski area boundary. He triggered an avalanche about 4.40pm, which dragged him several hundred metres into a gully by the slide at the skifield boundary near Queenstown on August 2, 2009.  “Coronet Peak Ski Area manager Hamish McCrostie confirmed Mr Campbell was carried 200 to 300m by the slide to a point in a narrow gully.

Police can now release the name of the woman who was killed while skiing at Coronet Peak, Queenstown, on Saturday 21 September.
She was 60-year-old Anita Maureen Graf [nationality undisclosed –Editor] who lived in Queenstown.

Australian father of three killed in New Zealand

An Australian man, 52, was killed when he reportedly fell in front of his wife and three children after a canyoning trip with his family near Queenstown on Monday.

He died in front of his three children, aged between 12 and 17 years, and his wife.

Canyoning Queenstown managing director Stefan Crawford blamed the death on “some sort of medical event”.

The victim’s wife said he did not have any pre-existing medical conditions.

Father-of-three killed in violent Mt Eden prison: ‘Our dad wasn’t cared for’
A father-of-three was killed after being subjected to violent bullying in the troubled Mt Eden remand prison, devastating his family and striking a final blow to the management of the private facility.

The death of Wayne Hotton while under 24-hour suicide watch is the latest horror story to emerge from the Auckland central remand prison, run by private company Serco on contract to the Department of Corrections.

The company flew out some of its top executives and put them up in Auckland’s five-star Langham Hotel, just up the road from the prison, while they tried to regain control of the violent prison. But this weekend, Serco managing director Paul Mahoney flew back home to Australia after losing the confidence of minister Sam Lotu- Iiga.

Dead Oamaru man was father of three
Police aren’t ruling out any possibilities in investigating the death of.

Police found the body of Oamaru man Wayne Ross, 46, at an Arun St group of shops, including a Lego shop and cake shop Kelly’s Cakes.

Friends and family have farewelled one of the men slain in a south Auckland pawn shop at the weekend. A bell rang as more than 100 mourners gathered to farewell 47-year-old father of three Paul Matthews at a tangi at Manurewa Marae this morning.

A neighbour has told of having to use a fire extinguisher in his attempts to subdue a 43-year-old father, Edward John Herbertfather, who faces grievous bodily harm charges after allegedly pouring petrol over his three children and setting them alight on Friday night.

Dead motorcyclist a father-of-three killed in police chase
A motorcyclist who was killed in a police chase in Christchurch was a young father of three, aged 10 and under.

Tina Wilson wrote on Facebook yesterday that she was “heartbroken” by her brother’s death.

“Still so hard to believe, can’t get my head around this at all… feels like a terrible nightmare,” she wrote.

“The fact is this person was speeding, they were breaking the law,” police said.

Yesterday’s incident was the second fatal police pursuit in the South Island this year after a man was killed on the West Coast when the car he was travelling in slammed into a house in Greymouth. Judd Hall, a 26-year-old from Runanga, was killed in the impact.


Stabbing victim named as father-of-three

The family of the good samaritan fatally stabbed in Auckland were totally devastated by what has happened, police said.

The victim was named today as father-of three Austin Bernard Hemmings, 44, of Devonport. Mr Hemmings worked as a broker manager in IAG House, which is adjacent to the BNZ Towers and backs on to Mills Lane where he was killed.

The father of three teenage children moved with his family from Hamilton to Auckland six months ago.


Missing father-of-three found dead in Whanganui
Whanganui man David Hill has been found dead, after he went missing for almost two weeks.

Mr Hill leaves behind a widow and three children aged 10, six and one.

Police said he was found “within the Whanganui area” but would not say where, and also refused to comment on the circumstances in which he was found, although they said it was not suspicious.

Search parties and helicopters for aerial searches were privately funded by Mr Hill’s family to work alongside police.

Senior Sergeant Lance Kennedy, of Whanganui, said nobody else was being sought in relation to the matter. [And that just about wraps it up!]

Another Australian killed in New Zealand

An Australian man was killed when he reportedly fell in front of his wife and three children after a canyoning trip with his family near Queenstown on Monday.

“Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said the man, 52, had been taking part in a canyoning trip with his family on Monday and had returned to base, between Glenorchy and Queenstown, when he fell and hit his head.”

He died in front of his three children, aged between 12 and 17 years, and his wife.
