The cost of Kaikoura Earthquake is expected to top 2 billion dollars

Up to a hundred thousand landslides, including numerous dams, are thought to have formed as a result of earthquake.

Powerful aftershocks continue to plague the disaster areas.

A similar size quake striking Central Auckland could kill at least 100,000 people and inflict $300 billion in damage to property and infrastructure.

At least 35 strong aftershocks strike South Island, NZ: US Geo Survey

Our own Geonet has classified 15 aftershocks as “severe” and another 15 as “strong”, as of writing.
