More signs they are coming!
A series of volcanic earthquakes has unnerved residents in Taupo and neighbouring areas.
Four shallow tremors occurred about 15km north-east of Taupo within about 40 minutes, GeoNet reported.
The opener was a 3.2 tremor at 10.01pm, followed by the 3.8 at 10.12pm, then a 2.7 at 10.25pm and a 2.9 at 10.37pm, which struck at ground level.
Meanwhile, more than a dozen aftershocks struck near Seddon, and several more near Kaikoura including a strong magnitude 4.6 shock that occurred 15 km west of Kaikoura at a depth of 9km at 10.47pm.
A GNS Science volcanologist is on record as saying the quakes didn’t warrant any heightened monitoring.
He said: “As for the cause of them, they’re basically located in a pretty active area of the country, just north of Taupo, where there’s a lot of faults and action: so it’s not unsual [sic] that we see quakes there at all.”
Let’s hope he is dead right!

Has the final countdown for ‘Godzone’ begun?
Pope Francis asked the Christians to “clean the filth…,” but it’s already 11:59
“The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth.”
“When we mistreat nature, we also mistreat human beings,” the pope said in a message marking the Catholic Church’s World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.
Pope’s belated message came just as the following pile was being prepared…
This is the best they’ve got in the stable?

Either no one has driven a car in NZ this week, or a major reporting injunction is in effect
How will you ever know which is least likely? Use Occam’s Razor to cut through the bullshit.
Other News in Drips…
Earthquake of 5.2 magnitude, centred near Masterton, rocks lower North Island
A 5.2 magnitude quake, centred west of Masterton (about 70kilometre ENE of Wellington), near the Wairarapa town’s water treatment plant, struck at 7.41am on Tuesday, and had a “strong” intensity, Geonet said. “Thousands of people reported feeling the quake around New Zealand.”
There was no immediate report of injury or damage.
Foreign driver charged with causing death and injury
A Singapore man who has admitted “charges of aggravated careless driving causing death and injury, after the death of a motorcyclist near Oamaru, is to be sentenced in June.”
Wei Kiong Lew, 30, crashed his rental car on State Highway 1, near Waianakarua, on November 29 last year, killing motorcyclist Craig Alan Chambers, of Motueka. Three others were injured including Lew’s partner and the two occupants of another vehicle involved in the crash.
DAY 117 of the latest TOURISTS or truth? campaign in NZ
To protect the tourism industry, about two-thirds of the road fatalities in New Zealand go unreported by our political police, and unrecorded by Ministry of Transport [“Minitru”.]
- Blog estimate: About 900 people are killed on NZ roads each year. [Most probably] up to 253 road fatalities have occurred in NZ since 1 January 2016.

Finger pointed at NZ in sex trade report
By MICHAEL FIELD – Fairfax Media | Thursday, 05 June 2008
A graphic US Government report on modern slavery has accused New Zealand of being a “destination country” for the trafficking of women for sex from Malaysia, Hong Kong and China [for some reason Vietnamese women are not mentioned in the report.]
It says some Asian and Pacific Islanders who migrate willingly to work in the agricultural sector and women from the Philippines who migrate to work as nurses “are charged excessive recruiting fees by manpower agencies, and experience unjustified salary deductions and occasional contract fraud, actions that make them vulnerable to involuntary servitude or debt bondage”.
Why was the Wenchuan girl photographed below separated from her parents? Where is she now?
[Why is this girl being taken away?] “A girl waves goodbye to her parents as she is airlifted out of the earthquake-hit city of Wenchuan, Sichuan province May 22, 2008. REUTERS/Reinhard Krause (CHINA)” (Image may be subject to copyright. See New Zeelend Fair Use Notice!)
[The report called for] a formal procedure to identify victims of trafficking among vulnerable groups such as foreign women arrested for prostitution or migrant labourers and continue efforts to investigate and prosecute citizens engaged in child sex tourism.
It said the United States opposed legalised prostitution and the report noted that since this came about in 2004, there had been 94 prosecutions for crimes involving commercial sexual exploitation of minors.
On Fiji – a major destination for New Zealand tourists – the US State Department says children from China are trafficked for the purposes of sexual exploitation. People from India are trafficked for forced labour and commercial sex.
“In addition, Fiji boys and girls are victims of commercial sexual exploitation by Fiji citizens, foreign tourists, and sailors on foreign fishing vessels. (Source) © Fairfax New Zealand Limited 2007.
