The frigging NZQA should’ve quality-tested NZ National College before inviting students

Like Asians, refugees, fruit pickers and other migrant workers, foreign students are treated like shit in New Zealand.

Last month, New Zealand National College was forced to stop teaching four business courses, while the more than 400 foreign students enrolled in the programmes were told they could transfer to another organisation to continue their studies.

Now…

“More than 140 foreign students are ineligible to continue their studies after they failed an English test and a double-check of their academic achievement, the Qualifications Authority (NZQA) says.”

“The students were among more than 400 who were being transferred to a new institution after the New Zealand National College halted its business diploma courses last month because of ongoing quality problems.”

Myrtle rust: Number of infected properties rises to 12  — [Bad Karma]

Myrtle rust is a serious fungal disease that affects plants in the myrtle family. Plants in this family include pōhutukawa and mānuka. The first detection of the disease in mainland New Zealand was at a Northland nursery in early May 2017. The disease is likely to affect some of our iconic native plants as well as commercially-grown species.  [MPI]

Myrtle rust has been found in Kerikeri in Northland and in Waitara, Taranaki. It is also widespread on Raoul Island in the Kermadec group, about 1,100km to the north-east of New Zealand. Myrtle rust (Austropuccinia psidii) is also known as guava rust and eucalyptus rust. The fungus attacks various species of plants in the Myrtaceae family, also known as the myrtle family. It is found in many parts of the world including New Caledonia and all along Australia’s eastern seaboard. Myrtle rust spores are microscopic and can easily spread across large distances by wind, or via insects, birds, people, or machinery. Source: info@mpi.govt.nz

Myrtle rust fond on at least 12 properties

“Four further Taranaki properties have tested positive for myrtle rust, bringing the number of positive locations nationally to 12.

“At this time, the disease has only been recorded in 2 regions – Northland and Taranaki. 8 of the affected properties are plant nurseries or retailers/distributors, and it has been detected in four private gardens.

“This response is rapidly changing as large numbers of members of the public report through suspected finds. To date, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has received some 380 reports of suspected symptoms through its 0800 number and the number of affected properties is expected to grow.”  http://www.mpi.govt.nz/news-and-resources/media-releases/myrtle-rust-response-media-update-22-may-2017/

Another bad karma cycle triggered: 17 percent of tertiary students can’t afford food —study

Nearly one in five (17 percent) of tertiary students are “regularly going without food or other necessities” because they cannot afford them, and a third considered dropping out “simply because of financial pressures,” according to a report citing a new study.

“More than half of all students and two thirds of Māori students said at some stage in the last year their income was not enough to cover their living costs.”

“A couple of years ago we were talking about students only living on two-minute noodles, what you see in this survey is that one in seven students can’t even afford those two-minute noodles,” said New Zealand University Students Association national president Jonathan Gee, adding he was surprised the survey showed conditions were getting worse.  Read more…

The SAD state of education in NZ

Tertiary staff under government pressure to pass students – survey
Lecturers and tutors are under increasing pressure to pass students who should be failed, to meet the government targets, the Tertiary Education Union says.
http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/327698/tertiary-staff-under-pressure-to-pass-students-survey

Why the government pressure to pass students who should be failed?
Because the students would spend about $4.5 billion on fees and living costs this year, making it New Zealand’s fourth largest export earner. Additionally, their family members who would come visiting spend another $1.5 billion or so in the country.

Smart Foreign Students Go to … GERMANY

Posted by te2ataria on March 10, 2011

WHY NOT STAY ALIVE WHILE YOU STUDY IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY?

WHY NOT LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH WITH AN ACCEPTABLE ACCENT?

WHY NOT STUDY YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT IN A FIRST CLASS UNIVERSITY IN GERMANY INSTEAD OF A THIRD GRADE PLACE IN NEW ZEALAND?

To ALL Foreign Students Currently Studying in New Zealand or Planning to Come Here

You probably didn’t know …

1. “Germany has been named as the most supportive country for overseas students, in an international league table.”

2. YOU can complete a degree course entirely in ENGLISH and without ever having to speak German.

“In the international zones of these classes, students from Germany, the United States and China participate in seminars conducted by German professors speaking in English”

Herbert Grieshop says international English might be easier to understand than a Yorkshire accent. Source: BBC

“I wonder whether a Chinese student can understand us better than someone with a Yorkshire accent or some strange American accent,”  says Herbert Grieshop, director of the Berlin University’s Centre for International Co-operation.

3. A survey conducted by the British Council has placed Germany in first place in its  international league table.

“The strongest overall performance was from Germany, which has promoted a deliberate policy of internationalisation.” BBC reported.

OVERSEAS FRIENDLY COUNTRIES [Source: British Council]

1. Germany
2. Australia [Except for Indian students]
3. UK [You’ll have to mortgage your ancestral home to pay the tuition fees]
4. China
5. Malaysia
6. US
7. Japan
8. Russia
9. Nigeria
10. Brazil
11. India

Thankfully, New Zealand is NOT on the List, a fact that makes the list marginally more credible.

AND HERE’S THE TOTAL WINNER:

No tuition fees!

Overseas students do not pay higher fees in Germany.

“Freie Universitat Berlin, a top-ranking research university, has been part of this internationalisation project. It anticipates that a third of its students could be from overseas in the future.” BBC reported.

“It’s a well kept secret, that students are able to come here and there are very few barriers,” says a foreign student.

“To go to university in Canada means taking on debt. It’s essentially free to do it in Germany. It’s incredibly appealing not to have to mortgage your future.” An international student said.

“I think the biggest factor is financial. In the US a graduate programme would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, in Germany it doesn’t cost anything. And it doesn’t cost more for foreign students than it does for German students.” Says a U.S. student studying in Berlin University. Read more…

Your New Zealand Degree Isn’t worth the Paper It’s Printed On!

As if being shot by the police, murdered in 57 ways, gang raped, kidnapped and beaten senseless wasn’t enough to deter foreigners studying in poxy New Zealand, now they have one more compelling reason…

Scotland-based Susan Barnard, 55, is about to become the first teacher in the United Kingdom to be struck off because of her incompetence. [Given the overall poor standard of education in Great Britain, you can just imagine the depth of her incompetence.]

Barnard has admitted that she is unable to plan lessons, communicate with pupils and manage her classes.

Barnard, who was born in England, told reporters she had trained at the Auckland College of Education. Source.

So, there you have it! Do you still want to study in New Zealand?
