Cyclone Gita continues battering New Zealand

Thousands of people still trapped in Golden Bay

Thousands of residents and tourists are trapped in Golden Bay and Collingwood have been cut off as State Highway 60, the only way out of the area, has closed in several places due to rain caused slips.

Dozens of other roads and “state highways” have been closed including SH73 near Kumara, SH1 in Kaikōura, north and south, due to flooding, slips and major damage. SH6 has also been closed between Westport and Greymouth due to flooding.

A 60-metre section of SH1 between Paekakariki and Pukerua Bay was destroyed after being undermined by sea swells from ex-Cyclone Gita.

Hundreds of schools and early learning centres remain closed throughout Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Waikato, Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatu and Otago, as lingering thunderstorms over the west coast of the South Island are expected to move on to Wellington.

Thousands of residents in Nelson, Tasman, Canterbury… have also been evacuated.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of homes in Tasman and Taranki are without power and multiple states of emergency have been declared…

There are reports of localised “flooding in Motueka, Takaka and Marahau, significant flooding in the Riwaka Plains.”

Milk, bread, canned goods, candles, bottled water and toilet paper “as well as other essentials have been cleared out of Takaka as the Tasman town is cut off and trucks with supplies are unable to reach them for days.”

Total cost of damage caused by Gita could exceed $300 million, informed sources have told the blog.

Lead has lowered your IQ, and E. coli could kill you!

The Most Heavily Censored Blog in New Zealand [Watch Out for Ceaseless Tsunamis of Bad Karma, Mr Ingrish!!]

Once again, who needs clean water in New Zealand??

Raised levels of lead found in five Dunedin primary schools

The Southern District Health Board say they are investigating raised levels of lead in five Dunedin primary schools: Bathgate Park, George Street Normal, Mornington, North East Valley and Opoho, a report said.

“Medical officer of health Marian Poore said the highest sample level was 595mg of lead per kg of soil, which is above the recommended government standard for home gardens (210mg) but below [the totally arbitrary level set] for public parks (880mg).”

Principals’ Federation criticise delay on reporting lead levels

The Principals’ Federation say they are alarmed the health authorities have taken about 16 months before telling schools that soil on school grounds are contaminated with raised levels of lead.

“Bathgate Park was one of the schools affected, and principal Whetu Cormack told Morning Report he was only told by the Ministry of Education about the results yesterday,” a report said.

Lead exposure destroys your life
“Children with elevated blood-lead levels at age 11 ended up as adults with lower cognitive function and lower-status occupations than their parents…”

“The findings, published [in March] in JAMA, were based on a study that followed about 1,000 children born in the early 1970s in the coastal city of Dunedin, New Zealand. More than half were tested for lead in 1983, and nearly three decades later, those who’d had higher blood-lead levels as children were more likely to have lower IQs and to wind up lower on the socioeconomic ladder. Both associations remained even after researchers accounted for the children’s IQs, their mothers’ IQs and their social-class backgrounds.”

The dairy industry gives a new meaning to Golden Bay
“While monitoring water quality at Te Waikoropupū Springs Friends of Golden Bay noticed that where Fish Creek flows into the Springs reserve it repeatedly had an unpleasant appearance and smell after rain events.”

“Bearing in mind the recent outbreak of illness in Hawke’s Bay, we initially tested for both Campylobacter and E.coli. We took samples during rain events when the problem was evident. We are glad to report no Campylobacter was found. However, the picture with E.coli is a different matter. We present the results in the table below,” say Friends of Golden Bay.

E-coli levels from farm runoff under rain events will always be high and exceed drinking and swimming water standards.” and “It is common to get between 1,000-10,000 E.coli/100ml, depending on the density of cows and timing of when the cows were last in the paddock. It is like where we were at with dairy shed effluent 20 years ago.”

Hundreds of whales killed in mass stranding at Farewell Spit

Posted by te2ataria on February 11, 2017

NO road fatality report allowed on Friday!

######

About 420 whales beached at Farewell Spit in Golden Bay

It is said to be New Zealand’s third-worst recorded whale stranding.

At least 340 pilot whales have died after a mass stranding on Farewell Spit, and about 80 were still alive tonight.

“The whales were reportedly stranded about one kilometre from the base, inside the Farewell Spit.

Project Jonah said there were many reasons for whales to strand. If they were old, or sick, a whale might struggle to keep up with the pod. Underwater explosions caused by sonar, seismic testing or underwater sea quakes could also have an impact on them,” said a report.   http://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/news/89265113/mass-whale-stranding-at-farewell-spit

The NZ factor: Burglar who punched woman in her bed avoids prison

Posted by te2ataria on March 11, 2016

It’s the insane Judge David Saunders, again!

Robert John Boyer, 28, broke into the woman’s home by kicking the locks on the front door at about 11pm on January 8. He walked into the victim’s bedroom and proceeded to punch her in the head until she bled.

Judge David Saunders [yes, that lunatic again] said the ordeal left the woman traumatised, and she had since moved to Australia. “She should have been entitled to feel safe in her own bed.”

Yet, the fruitcake sentenced Boyer only to seven months of home detention, 150 hours of community work, and a derisory payment of $750 for emotional harm reparation to the victim.

Boyer also had a previous criminal record, according to reports.

A sample of Judge David Saunders [thy women shalt not go unraped] previous f**k ups!

Police trumpet “impressive discovery”, but who planted the weapons in the first place?
Police claim they have found 14 military assault-grade AK47s and M16s in the roof of a south Auckland house during a raid on Thursday.

About 1 million guns are owned by New Zealanders, of which 100,000 were not where they should be, he said. Of those, about 25,000 were with criminals, said Waikato University police professor Alexander Gillespie.

Some 7,800 military-style guns are registered in New Zealand and they are strictly regulated, he said.

DAY 85 of latest ‘TOURISTS or truth?’ campaign in NZ

About two-thirds of the road fatalities in New Zealand go unreported by police, or unrecorded by Ministry of Transport [“Minitru”.]

One way to manipulate the road toll statistics is to report most of the dead as “seriously” or “critically” injured. This way, if the news leaks, the “seriously injured” could always be pronounced dead as a result of their injuries!
