Ms. Hu was at least the 13th foreigner killed in NZ during December 8 – 23.

2. Fatal crash in Maungatapere, Northland – Name release
The woman who was killed in the single car crash on State Highway 14 at Maungatapere yesterday (December 23) was Fijian national Lalita Devi. She was a passenger in the car, police said. [What exactly happened to the driver???]

3. Malaysian student killed in Mt Somers fall [Canterbury]
The Malaysian student who was killed in a fall at Mt Somers on Friday 22 December was Calvin Lim, 29, police said.

4 and 5. Man killed on 21st birthday in Hanmer Springs crash
A young man died on his 21st birthday after losing control of his car on Jollies Pass Rd, Hanmer Springs about 12.40am on Sunday. “He turned 21 [years old] 40 minutes before the crash – it was his birthday,” Canterbury cop Pete Cooper said, adding that the victim was an Indian national on a work visa. The passenger in the car, a 20-year-old German man, was flown to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition. Arnold Alfred Thomas Zehner Jr, a 35-year-old German national was killed in a motorcycle crash on the Masterton-Castlepoint Road on Monday 11 December 2017, police said.

German woman Kim Andrea Sauerwein, 30, was killed in a crash on the Coromandel Peninsula on Thursday 14 December, police said. “The crash occurred at the intersection of SH25 (Tairua Road) and Hikuai Settlement Road and involved a mini bus and a motorcycle. The Chinese man killed in the crash on the Rakaia Bridge in Canterbury this afternoon was 48-year-old Ian Adrian Yee, who lived in Christchurch.

11. Singapore tourists killed in fatal crash on West Coast [Monday]
“Two cars driven by tourists were involved in a fatal collision on the West Coast on Monday. West Coast area prevention Sergeant Andrew Lyes said a man from Singapore died in the crash south of Hokitika shortly after 12pm.”
Shin Min Daily News identified the man in a report on Tuesday as Mr Seow Kai Yuan.

Police have released name of victim of the latest crash on SH2 at Kutarere, who was killed near Opotiki on Sunday. She was 38-year-old Mele Heilalafuitahi Hiva who lived in Opotiki.

13. Taiwanese man killed by drowning at Coromandel Peninsula
“Ting Chang Chen, 25, was discovered off Crayfish Bay in the peninsula on Friday afternoon. A man had got into trouble while fishing at Golden Bay, Tasman District, drowned by the time “emergency services” had arrived.  [That’s how long it normally takes!]
The victim was 49-year-old Mark Noel Salmons, police said.

Murdered, or killed on NZ death roads (most recent, incomplete list)

Another Chinese student murdered in NZ.  A 24-year-old Asian student has been found stabbed to death in Half Moon Bay. – details not released.

Fatal crash in Napier.  Maree Schafer (American?), 18, died at the scene of the crash on Sandy Road, Meeanee, Napier at around 11.35pm Tuesday night.

The 18-year-old male who was driving and the 15-year-old front seat passenger suffered serious injuries and are currently being treated in Hawkes Bay Hospital.

Yet another violent death in Christchurch.  Sheena Louise Wright 41, of Christchurch, was struck by a train just north of the Hornby shopping complex at about 4.50am.

Killed in Rotorua. A 33-year-old Rotorua woman is dead and her teenage son, 14, is fighting for his life after a head-on collision near Tauranga.

The accident happened on State Highway 2 between Papamoa and Te Puke about 4.15pm on Sunday.

Deadly crash in Hamilton. A teenage passenger in a three-car crash west of Hamilton last Thursday died in hospital in Auckland overnight.

The 17-year-old was travelling west on State Highway 23 near Whatawhata shortly before 10pm in a Suzuki Swift.

An eastbound Nissan Bluebird crossed the centreline and collided head-on with the Suzuki, Waikato police said.

The female driver of the Suzuki was in a critical but stable condition in Waikato Hospital, while the driver of the Nissan had serious leg injuries.

Deadly Crash near Hatepe, Taupo.  One person died in the crash.  No further details of the deceased or the circumstances of the crash will be released until the next of kin have been advised [Usually means the victim was a foreign visitor.]

Deadly Crash at Whatawhata.  Shayna Kumitau, 18, died in Auckland Hospital early yesterday – four days after a head-on crash at Whatawhata.

Head-on crash in the Bay of Plenty kills one, injures six.  A head-on car crash in the Bay of Plenty today killed a woman and left six other travellers, including two children, in hospital.

Ngaruawahia homicide update and name release.  Waikato Police investigating the death of a man whose body was found lying at a rural property north of Ngaruawahia on Sunday morning have released the name of the deceased.

Motorcyclist killed south of Christchurch.

Schoolgirl was flung 20 metres, after train hit vehicle. Carterton schoolgirl Grace Ellen Diedrichs, 15, was killed just after 8.15am when the train slammed into the ute she was a passenger in.

“The car has actually hit the side of the train and it’s spun around, so the back of the cab is non-existent.” police said.

“The female passenger of the vehicle was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.”

The ute’s driver, Jonathan Painter, 17, was taken to Wairarapa Hospital with serious head injuries.

Police release names of two car crash victims.  The driver of a Subaru car who was killed when the car crashed into a tree in Edgecumbe last night (Tuesday, 19 February) can now be identified as 19-year-old Kane Jamie Te Riini from Edgecumbe. The 25-year-old passenger in the vehicle was also killed and he has been identified as Cyrus Aidan Brady, known as Aidan, from Matata.
