Biosecurity Breach

Potato mop-top virus (PMTV) detected in Canterbury

Biosecurity New Zealand has detected Potato mop-top virus (PMTV) in potato tubers in Canterbury. Incident controller, David Yard, says PMTV is not a food safety issue. However, PMTV “is a crop disease which, if found to be wide-spread, could cause some productivity issues for growers.”

To that extent, it is a “notifiable and unwanted organism in New Zealand under the Biosecurity Act.”

Potato tubers from at least 2 properties in the Canterbury region have tested positive for the disease. It’s unclear how the virus may have entered the country, MPI said.

Updates on Mycoplasma bovis and infected properties

Nationally, there’re 71 infected properties., which include 38 ‘active’ infected properties as of 21 September 2018.

A Waikato farmer is worried truck drivers are dumping stock effluent on a road, next to a stream supplying drinking water to hundreds of people.. Others are also worried effluent discarded on roads could hinder efforts to stop Mycoplasma bovis from spreading in the region.”

‘Dinosaurs’ in Toxic New Zealand

Residents say they are falling ill because of emissions from Bob Clarkson’s building

Toxic organic dust coming from a building owned by a controversial former National Party MP is believed to have caused health problems for neighbours, at least two of whom have been hospitalised.

The dust is from stock feed stored at a large warehouse built and owned by Bob Clarkson on Tauranga Airport land.

Clarkson famously knocked Winston Peters off his throne in Tauranga in 2005, but served only one term in Parliament, during which he was dogged by allegations of sexual harassment and his offensive comments about Muslims and homosexuals.

Mycoplasma bovis hits Waikato farm, the 39th across the country!

Posted by te2ataria on May 14, 2018

WARNING! SEVERE Karmic Booms Striking NZ!

| ♠ |

Mycoplasma bovis infects at least 39 properties across the country, thanks to the tracking system!!

[In July 2017, the bacterial infection Mycoplasma bovis was found in cattle in the Oamaru area of the South Island, and has since spread to at least 39 properties across the country, thanks to the MPI tracking system!]

“Biosecurity New Zealand (a unit of the Ministry for Primary Industries) today confirmed that a farm in the Cambridge area has tested positive for Mycoplasma bovis. [Thank God, the infection isn’t the same as the mad cow disease, or CJD. Editor]”

Abysmally Failed Tracking System

“The Waikato region dairy farm was identified through the tracing of cattle movements from infected properties and has been put through an exhaustive testing process to achieve a reliable result. The farm is under strict controls preventing the movement of animals and other risk goods on and off the property.

“Biosecurity New Zealand’s response director Geoff Gwyn says it is very disappointing to find the disease in another of New Zealand’s key dairying regions.

“It was, however, not a huge surprise, given the sheer number of farms we are uncovering that have received cows and calves from affected farms.”

Poor Record Keeping – Farmer Shafted by Farmer

“It’s a reality of New Zealand’s farming system that large numbers of animals are sold and moved across big distances. This response is serving to underline just how much movement takes place and it is this, coupled with poor record keeping through NAIT that is making our job very challenging.”

The new Cambridge positive takes the number of infected properties across the country to 39.  More…

  • Based on insider information, statistical models and local news, we believe about 900 people were killed and more than 8,000 others critically/seriously injured on NZ suicide roads in 2016; however, only 328 fatalities were reported last year. [For every 12 or so victims, who die from their road injuries later in a hospital, only one death is reported. See blog content.]
  • To protect the tourist industry and massive foreign investment, about two out of every three road fatalities [and other tourists deaths] go unreported, or the dead are statistically resurrected by NZ government’s “Ministry of Resurrection”.

Foreigners Killed in NZ Since 2000
At least 4,500 overseas visitors, international students, foreign workers, recent emigrants and refugees have lost their lives and more than 30,000 others seriously injured in New Zealand between Jan 2000 and Jan 2018.

Medical Miracle, or Malicious MENDACITY?

Of an estimated 3,000 people who have received near-fatal, critical, or serious injuries on New Zealand roads in 2017, only a handful were deceased from their injuries, according to NZ police reports, or lack thereof.

The cow disease mycoplasma bovis has now spread to  Southland and Hawke’s Bay.

In October, more than 4,000 cattle were  culled on farms infected with the disease Mycoplasma bovis.

MPI detects Mycoplasma bovis in 3 new properties

In July 2017, MPI detected the bacterial infection Mycoplasma bovis in cattle in the South Island…

Mycoplasma bovis is a bacterium that causes illness in cattle, including udder infection (mastitis), abortion, pneumonia, and arthritis.

The disease was confirmed in July 2017 on 2 farms in a 16 farm dairy enterprise in South Canterbury. In August 2017 a third infected farm was confirmed in the Oamaru area. All 3 affected properties and the remaining 14 corporate farms in the group are under legal controls (a Restricted Place Notice) restricting the movement of stock and equipment off those farms to contain the disease…

August 29 update: The Ministry for Primary Industries’ tracing and testing programme has identified 3 new properties positive for the bacterial cattle disease Mycoplasma bovis.

These latest detections bring the total number of infected farms to 6.

Two of the newly identified properties are Van Leeuwen Dairy Group farms and were already under Restricted Place notices under the Biosecurity Act

The third property was a trace farm that had received a small number of calves from the third infected farm confirmed last week. The property is a lifestyle block near Rangiora.

Mr Yard said MPI is continuing with its [senseless] policy of not naming the affected properties if the owners did not want this.

“MPI is prevented from doing otherwise by the Privacy Act. However, we do understand community concern about the disease and we are strongly encouraging farmers under controls or investigation to talk to their neighbours, customers and suppliers.” [Source: MPI]

Cow disease outbreak: Farmers demand answers

Farmers meeting about the Mycoplasma bovis outbreak, a dangerous cattle disease, are pushing for answers from the government because of its slow response to the infection.

“Mycoplasma bovis is a bacterium that causes illness in cattle, including udder infection (mastitis), abortion, pneumonia, and arthritis. It does not infect humans and presents no food safety risk. There is no concern about consuming milk and milk products from affected cattle,” according to MPI.

The disease was first confirmed (July 2017) in 14 cows at a South Canterbury dairy farm and about 150 animals are showing clinical signs consistent with the disease.

“To date 25 animals on the first affected farm have been euthanised by the farmer for welfare reasons. A further group of affected animals has been checked by a vet and is fit for transport to slaughter.”

Poorest New Zealanders spend 51 per cent of income on housing, up from 29 per cent in 1990

New Zealanders on the lowest incomes are now spending 51 percent of their income on housing, up from 29 percent in 1990, according to the latest Bryan Perry Household Incomes Report out today.

“Housing costs are eating into families’ budgets at a rate we’ve never seen before,” Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei said.

“These figures today show that the housing crisis is hurting our poorest people the most. That, combined with low incomes, is a recipe for growing poverty.

“New Zealanders living in cold damp housing know that they are paying too much to live where they are, yet they are powerless to change it.

“Only Government can fundamentally improve how our housing market operates. But this National Government has shown no commitment to doing that, even after nine years of failed policy.”

About 110,000 children live in damp and mouldy conditions, while 140,000 are unable to keep warm in winter and 75,000 experience both issues, according to Household Incomes Report.

Disease Outbreaks: Mycoplasma bovis

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) says it is responding to the detection of the cattle disease Mycoplasma bovis in a dairy herd in South Canterbury.

This is the first detection of the serious disease in New Zealand, MPI said.

“This bacterial disease can, however, have serious effects on cattle including udder infection (mastitis), abortion, pneumonia and arthritis.

“Right now we’re working with the farmer to contain the disease to the affected farm and treat the animals showing symptoms. We are very appreciative of his support in this work.”

MPI was advised of sick cattle at the property last Monday and Mycoplasma bovis was confirmed by the Ministry’s Animal Health Laboratory late on Saturday (22 July).

“Fourteen cows have tested positive for Mycoplasma bovis and approximately 150 cows on the property have clinical signs that indicate they may be affected. MPI is now tracing movements of animals on and off the property to ascertain if other properties are at risk.”  https://www.mpi.govt.nz/
