Heavily Censored Road Fatality Reports

Sent by a reader

“Couple resort to sleeping in library as capital’s rent crisis deepens”

What does a rigged economy look like???

“A graduate student spent a night sheltering in Victoria University’s library with her partner, amid reports of students couch-surfing, sleeping on floors and living in tents while they struggle to find homes.

“Georgia Irvine’s situation became so dire she considered quitting her job and moving out of the city – even writing her resignation letter on the morning when an flat offer finally came.”

“When there’s students [reportedly] living in tents you don’t need any more indication that there’s a rental crisis in the city,” said the president of Students’ Association at Victoria University of Wellington.

“The fact that the prime minister is saying it’s a ‘problem of success’ – that’s just ridiculous, because it may be that we are successful but how are you supposed to get students into the city to study when they have nowhere to live?” http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/education/90374040/couple-resort-to-sleeping-in-library-as-capitals-rent-crisis-deepens

If New Zealand is a happier country than Australia…

Posted by te2ataria on January 18, 2017

Sent by a reader, edited by Moderator N.

Then why, oh why, every kiwi dreams of moving their shit across the ditch???

Happy Planet Index has ranked Australia as the 105th happiest country, out of 140, and New Zealand, wait for it, 67 places higher at 38th.

Why is it then everyone and their uncles in this country dream of moving to Australia one day?

[The pathetic, totally discredited World Happiness Report, most probably paid for out of the UN funds by a certain senior official, had previously ranked NZ in the top 10 happiest country, but just one place ahead of Australia.]

NZ scored poorly on the ecological footprint, ranking 119th, but ahead of Australia at 139th out of 140.

The swine-sewage-infested Luxembourg came last on the ecological footprint front, and was the 139th candidate overall, just one place ahead of the “worst” country, Chad.

“The Happy Planet Index measures what matters: sustainable wellbeing for all” according to its website.

“Wealthy Western countries, often seen as the standard of success, do not rank highly on the Happy Planet Index.”

“Instead, several countries in Latin America and the Asia Pacific region lead the way by achieving high life expectancy and wellbeing with much smaller Ecological Footprints.

“The Happy Planet Index provides a compass to guide nations, and shows that it is possible to live good lives without costing the Earth.”

Only in New Zealand: Harbourmaster stood down for helping to save orca

Posted by te2ataria on December 15, 2016

Sent by a reader

Department of Conservation unable to protect orca in NZ waters

A Coromandel harbourmaster has been stood down after helping to free an entangled orca using a Waikato Regional Council vessel.

The rescue attempt took place after the Department of Conservation (DOC) failed to send their people to free the drowning whale, said Dr Ingrid Visser of the Orca Research Trust.

“The breeding female was trapped by a cray pot line for 16 hours before locals acted,” she said.

Visser called DOC’s inaction “inexcusable”.

“The Coromandel Peninsula has had at least three orca entanglements that I know of, so the Department of Conservation should be well prepared for this.”

The harbourmaster has been taken off operational duties until further notice, said Waikato Regional Council chief executive Vaughan [butt] Payne.

New Zealand has the highest rate of orca entanglement in cray pots in the world, Visser said.

“There are about 100 female orca around New Zealand and here we have a breeding age female left to fend for herself with the help of her family – it’s deplorable.”

Gail Thwaites, one of numerous people who had attempted to contact DOC about the orca, felt disgusted.

“DOC didn’t do their job.

“I think it’s disgusting that the harbourmaster was stood down. He was acting in good faith with good intentions to save this whale. I’d love to know what the story would be if nothing was done and the whale died.”

Nurse steals money from elderly patient with dementia

Eva Martha Harrison, 63,  a registered Hamilton nurse stole hundreds of dollars from a rest home patient with dementia.  It’s not known how many other patients the  has ripped off in her 44-year career.

“She was fired from that job in July 2014, one month after the theft. She subsequently applied for a position at the Waikato District Health Board.”

She was employed despite having an array of previous convictions including assault, theft, DUI… In fact, she could have been a mass murderer and still work as a nurse without any hesitation by Waikato District Health Board.

New Zealand, S. Sudanese migrants to Australia treated like sh*t

Half of New Zealanders starting a new life in Australia have experienced racism or discrimination

New Zealanders and South Sudanese migrants to Australia feel they are more discriminated against among all migrant groups, according to a survey of more than 10,000 people.

Migrants feel less optimistic the longer they stay in Australia, the report has found.

Australians going to New Zealand do qualify for full citizenship, but if you come the other way, you don’t.

“New Zealanders who come here can come by their passport, but the consequence of that is there are some benefits that they don’t get,” said Professor Markus of Monash University.

Professor Andrew Markus said many New Zealanders, who hold Special Category Visas, feel they are given a “harsh deal” in Australia because they can live and work here but are not eligible to vote, receive welfare, or other benefits.

“At one level they should know what they’re getting themselves into because it’s very clearly explained to them,” he said.

“Nonetheless people feel resentment having worked in this country for years, paid their taxes, contributed to the community and then having difficulties and not being able to get Centrelink benefits.  [See Australians Today report.]

“They also resent the fact that an Australian going to New Zealand does qualify for full citizenship but if you come the other way, you don’t.”

More than 200,000 New Zealanders on these visas, can’t get any help from Centrelink, it’s hard for kids going to university to get HECS, and they don’t get to vote, says the report.

“Both New Zealand and South Sudanese migrants also reported low levels of trust, with Kiwis holding a very little trust in political parties (10 per cent) and the South Sudanese reporting the lowest level of trust in the police (24 per cent) out of any other group.”

“Migrants from South Sudan bear the brunt of discrimination, with the report’s author Professor Andrew Markus describing the level of colour prejudice towards them as ‘off the scale'”.

[The second edition of this report, originally published by abc.net.au on Tuesday, has been heavily redacted and partially censored.]

“‘Predatory’ property managers renting out Auckland garages”

“A Newshub investigation has revealed Auckland garages are being rented out illegally for more than $400 a week.

“In a case that is currently before the Tenancy Tribunal, one property manager is accused of commandeering a garage, converting it and renting it out to separate tenants.

“That’s despite the garage apparently being included in the rental agreement for the tenant in the main house…” http://www.newshub.co.nz/nznews/predatory-property-managers-renting-out-auckland-garages-2016071917
