NEWS BLACKOUT continues in New Zealand – DAY 48

Road Fatalities and Tourist Deaths: DAY 48 of latest NEWS BLACKOUT campaign in NZ

Today was also the day thousands of angry protesters shut down intersections in Auckland’s CBD to “send a message” against the TPPA signing.

Trade ministers from the 12 countries joined in the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPPA) today signed the biggest trade deal in history in Auckland, despite the massive public outrage. [What have the people got to do with issues of national interest?]

Council Trade union secretary Sam Huggard said the government did not consider people in the TPPA plan, reports Erin Speedy.
“They didn’t want us to say we want an end to corporate greed.”

“We don’t want them growing up in a country where the government is scared of every movement they make because they’re scared they’re going to p*** off some overseas corporates,” he said. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/76517301/TPPA-signing-Live-coverage-from-Auckland-as-trade-deal-signed

… and the day when

Our corrupt PM chickened out of attending Waitangi celebrations… “I’m certainly not running scared, I’ve made a commitment to go every year and I have.”

“I can’t go and I won’t go with a gagging order on me,” he said.

Large-scale protests around the country today in response to the Government signing the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) also meant concerns about potential riots and protests had put him and his security staff in a “dangerous position”.  http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/76578090/ngapuhi-elder-warns-there-will-be-trouble-if-john-key-attends-te-tii-marae

Meanwhile, Japan’s Yamaguchi prefecture began marketing itself as “the new Australia” or more precisely as “the fake Australia” since the two places have absolutely nothing in common!  http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-02-03/japan-prefecture-marketing-itself-as-the-new-australia/7137152

Another story of tourists wronged…

Tourists leave NZ after campervan hell

American tourist David DiMichele and his wife spent “almost US$4,000 (NZ$6,016) getting here, and then another US$2,800 (NZ$4,211) on the campervan for 29 days.”

Predictably, their rental vehicle broke down! [See blog content for defective rental cars and unsafe sports equipment.] “Does it leave a sour taste in my mouth? Absolutely,” said the tourist.   http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11584696

… and the “murder-mystery” deepened…

Rosemary Dey, 31, was found dead in her Newtown flat on Tuesday night. Police say her death is unexplained.

On October 24 last year, police put out a plea for help to find Dey, saying she had last been seen in Christchurch the day before and they had “concerns for her wellbeing”.

Police reported two days later that she had been found.  http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/76569925/woman-found-dead-in-newtown-flat-named-as-rosemary-dey

Most road fatalities have long been reported as “injuries”

Posted by te2ataria on February 2, 2016

Many road fatalities are routinely reported as road injuries, while others go reported…

On average, 2.2 people are killed on New Zealand roads each day and about 10 others injured.

  1. Only high-profile fatalities are reported in NZ.
  2. Many road fatalities are routinely reported as road injuries.
  3. A proportion of road fatalities go unreported, where possible.
  4. Fate of the crash victims are closely guarded as a “state secret”.

Corrupt government, malignant police force…

Posted by te2ataria on February 2, 2016

sent by a reader

Police minister, union back deadly chase policy… naturally!

Both the gatekeeper police minister and the rotten police union have backed the deadly car pursuit policy that has left three teenagers dead, a fourth in a coma, and at least three others seriously injured in two chases within 7 days.

“Police Minister Judith Collins backed the officers involved in the incident,” she said, “it’s the people driving dangerously who are at fault,” according to a report.

“It’s very important that police don’t give over the roads to people who steal cars and then drive dangerously and put everyone’s lives at risk, including their own,” she told RNZ.

[The act of driving dangerously and causing road fatalities should be left to police drivers.]

What do the experts say?

Safety campaigner Clive Matthew-Wilson, who edits the car review website, dogandlemon.com, also wants the police to abandon most car chases.

“Comments by the police minister, that young people need to be reminded of the devastating consequences of fleeing police, suggest the minister doesn’t understand basic medical science.”

“These are kids. They don’t think; that’s the point; their brains haven’t developed sufficiently to make rational decisions.”

“Young drivers who try and flee police get a rush of adrenaline and just take off at high speed. However, the police who are pursuing a fleeing car shouldn’t allow a similar rush of adrenaline to replace their own sound judgment.”

“The police have other options: they can use surveillance cameras, helicopters, road spikes, or simply notify other police cars and quietly pursue the fleeing vehicle at a distance.”

“These fleeing drivers aren’t going to stop and think what they’re doing, so it’s up to the police to use their heads instead.”

In Tasmania, Australia, police chases for minor offences are banned. Police in Tasmania say the ban has not stopped them catching criminals.

Assistant Commissioner Donna Adams of the Tasmanian Police told Metro magazine that the Police, who initially opposed the ban on car chases, now strongly support it.

Assistant Commissioner Adams said that while police could still pursue vehicles for serious crimes in progress, such as robbery or murder, “they’re very few and far between.”

Adams added that the ban has not impacted on enforcement of laws. People aren’t drink-driving or nicking vehicles with impunity, she says, because they’re still getting caught.

A former police officer told Metro that police sometimes lie about car chases. “It becomes an intensely personal battle between the chasing officer and the offender,” he said.

Doctored statistics

  • In 2010, at least 18 drivers were killed in police pursuits. The statistics are only for drivers, and do not apply to other members of the public killed or injured in police pursuits. We’ve been unable to find data for the subsequent years.]
  • Police Minister Judith Collins’ office provided NZPA further statistics showing that in 2010 there were 2211 fleeing driver incidents with 354 crashes (16 per cent), in 2009 it was 2349 with 388 crashes (16.5 per cent), 2155 with 505 crashes in 2008 (23.4 per cent), 2435 and 584 crashes in 2007 (24 per cent) and 2234 and 546 crashes in 2006 (24.4 per cent). Around 30 per cent of cars involved in fleeing driver incidents had been stolen. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10713137
  • During the fiscal years of 2008-09 and 2012-13 police stopped an average of 2,687,851 vehicles per year, during those same periods there was an average of 2284 fleeing driver incidents. http://www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/news/75637631/more-than-100-fleeing-drivers-in-southern-district-in-first-10-months-of-2015–police

If you have to drive in NZ “expect the unexpected”

Posted by te2ataria on January 9, 2016

NEWS BLACKOUT in New Zealand: DAY 23

“Words of wisdom” by Canterbury policeman

“It may not be your mistake that causes a crash, so drive defensively and expect the unexpected, particularly near intersections in rural areas.”

Traditionally, there’s a significant increase in crash rates on State Highway 7, State Highway 73, and State Highway 1 during December and January, said acting Canterbury police district road policing manager Inspector Ash Tabb.

The provisional Canterbury road toll for 2015 was 46, over 24 per cent higher than the 2014 road toll of 37. There was also a 22 per cent increase in the total number of crashes during December 2015 compared to December 2014.

“Unfortunately, while we see a number of serious crashes in the Christchurch Metro area, the majority are in rural or semi-rural areas in Selwyn, North Canterbury, and Mid-South Canterbury.”

“It may not be your mistake that causes a crash, so drive defensively and expect the unexpected, particularly near intersections in rural areas.”

NEWS BLACKOUT ALERT: CODE RED

It’s no longer about reporting road murders, it’s all about keeping the fatalities within a predetermined figure!

However, the police will have a hard time concealing the fatalities that are reported by foreign media [and are routinely left out by the local media until they become common knowledge,] like the following examples:

So, how tight is the ongoing censorship noose? Judge for yourselves, [and let’s hope you haven’t been influenced by the “fuzzy logic” taught at a local school.]

Fatal crashes year to date [according to the Ministry of Transport ]
As at 8 January 2016 there were 6 fatalities
Same time last year: 7 fatalities
http://www.transport.govt.nz/research/roadtoll/

Latest reported road-murders:

However, we’ve come across a few more “murder mysteries”.

Woman killed by a stranger
A middle-aged woman, possibly a foreigner, was exercising in leafy Remuera yesterday morning when she was attacked by a man with an unspecified weapon. Her body was found about an hour later .

“We don’t have any evidence to indicate that the accused was known to the victim,” said police.

“The alleged murderer handed himself into the police hours later, with a weapon. Charged with murder, he will appear in the Auckland District Court today.” http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11570679

Auckland man’s body recovered from Coromandel stream
Police said the 32-year-old Auckland man set out canyoning by himself on Saturday near Table Mountain, Thames.

“He came into grief  in a river,” said Senior Segreant Rupert Friend of Waikato Police.

[The “river” is actually a stream with less than 8 inches of water. And Senior Segreant Rupert didn’t say how he knew details of the dead man’s “grief”.]  http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/75602873/auckland-mans-body-recovered-from-coromandel-stream

Dozens of crashes leave 3 to 8 people dead more than a dozen injured
