kiwi thugs arrested in India for possession of cannabis refuse diplomatic help

Two New Zealanders, a man and a woman in their 30s, were arrested in Bhuntar, India last week and charged with possession of large amount of cannabis.

Indian authorities say the New Zealanders were carrying about 100 grams of cannabis between them, NewstalkZB reported.

India has a mandatory 10-year jail sentence for anyone caught with any amount of  cannabis. It has been said that under Indian law, anyone charged is considered guilty until proven innocent.

Indian police said they had contacted New Zealand High Commission in New Delhi about the arrests.

In another news bulletin a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (the cover organization for NZ main spy agency) in Wellington confirmed that New Zealand’s High Commission in New Delhi had been informed about the arrests.

They said their diplomats had made contact with the two, but the accused had declined offers of help.

When a journalist remarked that the statement had sounded very peculiar indeed, the Ministry spokesman replied, “if you don’t believe me, pick up the f**king phone and call the f**kers yourself,” or words to that effect.
