Road Murders: Getting killed on NZ roads is a compulsory affair

Posted by te2ataria on December 16, 2016

You’re sober, driving carefully, and the car is in good nick, but still end up dead on the way to work!

The hundreds of people who are being killed on NZ ‘s deadly roads each year are being road murdered, so their deaths must not be treated as accidental.

About 2.7 million licensed but not necessary qualified drivers, half million or so unlicensed/unqualified drivers and more than one million tourists (per year) drive on New Zealand death roads.

A large number of the above drive a vehicle under the influence (illicit drugs, banned substances, prescription medication…), while intoxicated, fatigued or mentally unfit, resulting in inordinate numbers of fatalities and injuries. [Other factors for the carnage include deadly roads, road unworthy vehicles…]

Between 2001 and 2014, New Zealand’s vehicle fleet reportedly increased by 32 per cent, while the population grew by 16 per cent and foreign travel was up by 15 per cent.  And over the last 10 years the number of international visitors has increased by about 30 per cent.

Here’s the latest road fatalities, so far today:

Two people were killed in Rakahouka crash, Southland

Two people were killed in a violent crash on Lorne-Dacre Road (SH 98) Rakahouka, Southland. A third person is in a critical condition, while a fourth has serious injuries. http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/update-two-people-have-died-following-rakahouka-crash-southland

Fatal crash in Omokoroa [Bay of Plenty of Deaths]

A fatal crash occurred in Omokoroa, Tauranga, just before 7.30pm this evening.  At least one person in the crash, which happened on Anderley Ave.  http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/fatal-crash-omokoroa

  • NZ Road fatalities as of December 16, 2016, according to government: 308
  • NZ Road fatalities as of December 16, 2016, according to statistical models: Up to 866

The State’s other Stinking Secrets

Truth hurts New Zealand tourism. The average tourist would not visit this country, if they knew true extent of the daily carnage on our deadly roads. Therefore:

To protect the tourism industry, about two-thirds of the road fatalities in New Zealand go unreported by our political police, or unrecorded by Minitru [“Ministry of Transport”.]  Se blog content for some of the most blatant omissions.

How Many Foreigners Killed in NZ Since 2000?

About 3,500 overseas visitors, international students, foreign workers, recent emigrants and refugees have lost their lives and 20,000 others seriously injured in New Zealand since year 2000.

Chinese driver jailed for killing motorcyclist Rhys Middleton

Chinese visitor Jieling Xiao, who caused the death of a young motorcyclist Rhys Middleton, 23, was told by a judge her driving was “grossly incompetent”.

Middleton was killed on February 7 when his motorbike collided with a car being driven by Xiao at Eskdale on the Napier-Taupo highway.

Xiao was jailed for 17 months earlier today by the presiding Judge Bridget Mackintosh.  http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/81139762/Foreign-driver-Jieling-Xiao-jailed-for-road-death-of-motorcyclist-Rhys-Middleton

Farish accepted “expert testimony” that Mitchell suffered Profound Dissociative Spectrum Disorder (PDSD), or as the judge called it, a “white-out”, a medical condition [if true] under which she would have been “grossly incompetent” [not legally qualified] to operate a vehicle.

Sex for a place to sleep in Dunedin

Posted by te2ataria on May 28, 2016

What housing crisis?

“Dunedin’s ‘dire’ housing situation is forcing some at-risk youth to engage in prostitution to get a place to sleep, or to sleep rough in cars, a Methodist Mission survey has revealed.

“Eleven of the 300 at-risk youth (aged between 16 and 20) who responded to the survey said they had engaged in prostitution for the ‘primary purpose of accommodation’.”

Mirror Services director Deb Fraser said a substantial number of its youth clients faced the prospect of homelessness.

“The young people who access our service already have many vulnerabilities due to their illnesses, histories (often traumatic) and other difficult social dynamics.”

“In our experience a substantial number of our young people often face homelessness or are in substandard or socially compromised living situations because of these vulnerabilities which then has escalating impacts for all manner of harm.”

Mr McLauchlan said boarding houses often put teenagers, particularly young women, at more risk.

“In many cases we are talking about youth living with majorly dysfunctional people and that can be an incredibly unhealthy environment for them to be in.

“They are reporting feeling unsafe, being assaulted, a lot of them are self-harming.”

Much of the accommodation on offer to at-risk youth was better suited to older men, he said.

“If you are a young woman there are very few temporary options.”

Another American tourist killed, her parents critically injured in violent crash

Posted by te2ataria on April 19, 2016

Young American woman violently killed; her parents near-fatally injured in logging truck crash

A tourist who was violently killed after the rental she was a passenger in collided with a fully laden logging truck near Matamata was an American woman, travelling with her parents, police said.

The 22-year-old woman was instantly killed in the crash on Hopkins Rd, off State Highway 29 on Monday morning.

The turn-off is the main route to Hobbiton Movie Set, but Waikato police Senior Sergeant Gill Meadows said it was still unclear where the trio were travelling but it was possible they were heading to the well-known tourist attraction,

The woman’s 59-year-old father was driving the car while her 55-year-old mother was in the back seat. The pair were airlifted to Waikato Hospital both in a critical condition, Waikato police Senior Sergeant Gill Meadows said.

“I understand the mother was going into surgery today, that was the latest update that we had, but both were still in a very serious condition.”

“The impact of the crash was so intense that witnesses noticed the truck and trailer unit get airborne on impact before shunting the car about 20m down the road into a fence,” said a report.

Top 3 in New Zealand: methamphetamine, gang rapes and road-murders

‘More Marlborough home buyers requesting methamphetamine test before sale’

Just how much meth are we producing, importing and taking in this country?

“At that stage people didn’t really know about meth. Every six weeks he’d sort of convulse in the corner of the room. The hospital didn’t know what was wrong with him.”

Homes affected with methamphetamine were a serious heath risk to tenants, and absorbent materials like carpet could retain a potent level of the drug, Brereton said.

“The impact on the home is very real,” he said.

“If you’ve got newborn kids crawling round, it can make them very sick very quick. It’s quite a frightening problem.”  http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/77546716/More-Marlborough-home-buyers-requesting-methamphetamine-test-before-sale

Massive amounts of methamphetamine and dextromethamphetamine are trafficked and sold in this country as more and more people use them for their aphrodisiac and euphoriant properties.

Methamphetamine use also has a high association with anxiety, depression, methamphetamine psychosis, suicide, and violent behaviors, experts say.

Another overseas visitor ‘road-murdered’ in NZ

Posted by te2ataria on November 1, 2015

This post was updated with additional weekend road-murders added on 2 November 2015.

Road-murdered in New Zealand

This blog has adopted the term “road-murder” to describe the demise of inordinate numbers of people killed on NZ roads. Most of the fatal crashes occur as a result of one or more of the following factors:

  • Motor vehicles unworthy to be on the roads,
  • Poorly designed and shabbily constructed roads, and/or
  • Collisions caused by others driving under the influence.

[A tiny percentage of fatal collisions in New Zealand are caused by overseas visitors due to  unfamiliarity with the road system (driving on the left), defective rental cars, or jet lag and travel fatigue.]
