“Hit-and Run” Fatality in Ruatoria, Gisborne

“Gisborne Police are investigating an incident in Ruatoria, following a report that a man had been run over. At approximately 12:40am this morning, emergency services were called to Tapuaeroa Road where the man died at the scene. Young Man in coma after hit-and-run in Parakai on Thursday
Alec Gannaway, 20, was taken to hospital by a Westpac rescue helicopter after he was hit by a car in Parakai and sustained “horrendous injuries”. The driver was arrested the next day.

Fatal crash in Wallacetown, Southland
“Southern Police are attending a fatal crash on Riverton-Wallacetown Highway, Oporo, where a four-wheel drive and a tanker have collided. Emergency services were called at approximately 7:50am this morning, Sunday 16 April, 2017. The driver of the four-wheel drive died at the scene. There are no further injuries.”

“A man has died after being found in Tyco Gorge, near Jacksons on the West Coast. Police were alerted when a group the man was with activated a Personal Locator Beacon just before midnight last night. Flooding near Piako River, Waikato
Evacuations of a number of houses are underway due to flooding from the Piako River. The softbank has been breached causing flooding near Patetonga and the Paeroa-Tahuna Road and Awaiti Road areas. Motorists are asked to avoid travel in the area.
