Double fatal Masterton mid-air collision victims named

Wednesday, 19 June 2019 – 3:51pm – Wellington

Names of the two men who were violently killed in a mid-air collision have been released. The bizarre crash involving two light aircraft occurred near Hughes Line, Masterton, on Sunday 16 June.

The victims have been identified as 20-year-old Joshua Christensen and 66-year-old Craig McBride, who both lived in Masterton, police said.

Body of missing jet boater located, West Coast
Wednesday, 19 June 2019 – 3:00pm – Tasman

The body of 29-year-old Daniel Shane McLellan-Skeggs, who went missing  in a jet boating incident on the West Coast on May 17, has been found, police said.

The body was located on a beach at Kakapotahi on the West Coast by a fisherman early this morning and reported to Police when he returned to shore about 9.30am, a report said.

Man confirmed killed in light plane crash
Saturday, 15 June 2019 – 2:42pm  –  Waikato

“One person has died following a light plane crash near the north end of Coromandel Forest Park. Police had been working with RCCNZ and LandSAR to locate the plane since last night.”
“It was reported overdue about 4:25pm yesterday. The plane was located crashed about 10am by ground search teams.”
“The sole occupant of the plane was found deceased.”

Surfer Killed at Sandy Bay near Whangarei

A surfer was killed at Sandy Bay near Whangarei. Police have not provided any details as of posting.
The incident happened just after 4.30pm on Thursday.

Danish hiker killed in Karangarua Valley, South Westland – name release
Wednesday, 12 June 2019 – 1:29pm – Tasman

The hiker who was killed in Karangarua Valley on 11 June was 21-year-old Jonas Legaard Sorensen.
He was visiting New Zealand from Denmark.

Body of missing British tramper Darren Myers found in Tararua Range
Wednesday, 12 June 2019 – 1:02pm  –  National News

The body of British hiker Darren Myers, 49, was found, almost two weeks after he went missing in the Tararua Range, a report said.

The hiker was apparently killed in a fall. His body was “found at the bottom of a waterfall in “hazardous” terrain, after an eleven day search hampered by bad weather,” the report said.

“The body was located via an aerial search…” police said.

UPDATE: Serious crash – Pongakawa, [Bay of Plenty of Deaths]

Two people were crushed to death in a serious crash between a car and a train in Pongakawa around 8:15am today, police confirmed.

“Three other people have been seriously injured and taken to hospital. The crash occured [sic] on Pongakawa School Road.”

“No children were involved in the collision.” [It’s unclear why police had to make the statement. However, where there’s fire… police use the smoke to create a “denial screen.” Moderator]

One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on SH1, Oakleigh, Whangarei District, police admitted.

“Emergency services were called around 5.50pm. One other person received moderate injuries.”

The man who was killed in a crash on SH29, Lower Kaimai, Western Bay of Plenty on Monday 17 June was 52-year-old Gregory Matthew Farrell, who lived in Hamilton, police said.
