Tourism is responsible for a twelfth of world greenhouse gas emissions
Emissions from tourism were found to be highest in the United States, China, Germany and India, according to a review of 160 nations led by the University of Sydney researchers and published in the journal Nature Climate Change.
Flights, hotels, food and production of souvenirs, accounted for emission of the equivalent of 4.5 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2013, the latest data available [tourism has been growing at an annual rate of about 4 percent since. Editor] or 8 percent of all anthropogenic greenhouse gases, up from 3.9 billion in 2009, according to the report.
The carbon footprint of global tourism
By Manfred Lenzen, et al. Published by Nature Climate Change (2018) doi:10.1038/s41558-018-0141-x
Abstract
Tourism contributes significantly to global gross domestic product, and is forecast to grow at an annual 4%, thus outpacing many other economic sectors. However, global carbon emissions related to tourism are currently not well quantified. Here, we quantify tourism-related global carbon flows between 160 countries, and their carbon footprints under origin and destination accounting perspectives. We find that, between 2009 and 2013, tourism’s global carbon footprint has increased from 3.9 to 4.5 GtCO2e, four times more than previously estimated, accounting for about 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Transport, shopping and food are significant contributors. The majority of this footprint is exerted by and in high-income countries. The rapid increase in tourism demand is effectively outstripping the decarbonization of tourism-related technology. We project that, due to its high carbon intensity and continuing growth, tourism will constitute a growing part of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

If you are flying to New Zealand
“If you are one of the 2.6 million tourists who fly to New Zealand each year to hike the deadly mountain paths, swim the toxic lakes, or watch whales and dolphins death throes, you are committing a double act of eco-terrorism:
- You contribute to burning an estimated 3.2 billion gallons of fuel flying in and out of New Zealand. [Each liter of fuel produces about 2.4 kg of CO2 or 8.8 kg/U.S. gallon ~ 19.4 pounds/U.S. gallon.]
- You destroy the marine ecosystems and harm the creatures you come in contact with.”

Three out of four of migrants arriving were non-New Zealand citizens
Some 130,400 migrants (many of them Chinese) arrived in NZ and 58,400 departed the country so far this year.
Meanwhile, a record 3.6 million tourists visited New Zealand in the year to May, leaving behind hundreds of thousands of tonnes of waste that NZ can’t cope with.
“Migration, in conjunction with sluggish supply of new housing and associated land use restrictions, may have had a significant effect on house prices in New Zealand,” said a 2014 Treasury report [and they have stayed silent since.

Frenchwoman killed on January 11, police withheld report until forced by foreign media to release details
A 53-year-old Frenchwoman was killed in a fall near Milford Sound, Fiordland National Park on January 11, but her death was kept secret until today, when police was forced by foreign media to release the details.
The victim was tramping with her husband, who has since left New Zealand. Her body has been recovered but it was not known when it would be returned to her family, said a report.
“A police media spokesman said miscommunication internally had meant details of last week’s incident were not released earlier.”

The following statistics were sent by a reader:
Tourists more likely to be killed by terrorists in France, or while visiting New Zealand?
The following statistics cover the period between January 2000 and November 13, 2015.
Terrorist Attacks in France
Some 17 acts of terrorism have occurred in Paris between the year 2000 and November 13, 2015 including shooting, bombing, stabbing, vehicle ramming and suicide bombing, claiming the lives of 163 people (terrorist casualties not included), and leaving 440 others injured.
- According to the best data available, 42 of the victims were foreign nationals, or French citizens with dual nationalities.
No. of Foreigners Visiting France v. New Zealand
Based on figures released by the World Bank, and other sources, about 1.25 billion [1,254 million] foreigners visited France during that period.
During the same period, about 40.8 million [40,795,000] foreigners visited New Zealand, according to the World Bank and Statistics NZ (see links below).
Killed in New Zealand
Figures published by newzeelend.wordpress.com (this blog) show that: “More than 3,400 overseas visitors, international students, foreign workers and recent emigrants have lost their lives and about 18,000 others seriously injured in New Zealand since year 2000.”
[Alternately, other credible statistics may be submitted to the blog for consideration, or plugged into the following equations.]
- Probability of a foreigner being killed while visiting New Zealand: 3,400/40,795,000 (8.33e-5) or about 1 in 10,000
- Probability of a foreigner being killed in France from acts of terrorism: 42/1.25 billion or about 1 in 30 million (3.35e-8)
Killed in New Zealand from Tourism/Killed in France from Terrorism = (8.334e-5)/ (3.35e-8) = 2,488.4
Conclusion:
Foreign visitors are about 2,500 times more likely to be killed violently while visiting New Zealand (air and road crashes, adventure tourism…), than being killed in France by the terrorists.

So you want to talk about natural selection…
A female “gossip columnist,” who works for a shabby news outlet, has mocked the death of the Cook Islands family, Cindy George and her three children in Ashburton as “natural selection”.
[Incidentally, the columnist in question was herself mocked by her friends while still at school because she never washed her hands after using the toilet, despite being a chronic nail-chewer.]
The Ashburton tragedy, whether it was foul play, or an accidental disaster, had nothing to do with natural selection, other than in the diary of a racist scumbag.
However, the mechanics of natural selection do have a strong presence in New Zealand, and play an important role in the evolutionary process…
Take the 2.98 million foreign visitors who arrived in New Zealand in the year ended May 2015 (www.med.govt.nz/).
The foreign visitors who visit New Zealand each year risk becoming victims of:
- Inordinate number of homicides
- Fatal incidents in NZ’s notorious tourist deathtraps
- Deadly collisions on NZ’s deadly roads
- Lethal food poisoning
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Potentially deadly UV radiation
- Deadly viral infections
- Extreme sports that become life-threatening due to inadequate safety measures and/or faulty equipment
[Borrowed from Apartheid Fort New Zealand]
Yet, they keep on arriving, year after year!
Now, that’s natural selection working at its best.

Highly Contagious Mystery Bug Contaminating NZ Campsites
If you are visiting New Zealand, and you really ought to know better NOT to, don’t use the camping sites!
Holiday From Hell. A highly contagious mystery bug alleged to be Gastrointestinal Norovirus is contaminating New Zealand campsites.
In the latest incident a Golden Bay camping ground was forced to close down and its campers quarantined on site after up to 150 campers were struck by vomiting and diarrhea as a result of the bug.
“Camper Gwyn Edwards told The Press his group of 10 adults and children had arrived at Golden Bay camping ground, north of Takaka, on Sunday, a week after the virus began appearing, but were not warned and all became sick.” NZPA reported.
“On Monday night quite a few people went down with it, and by Tuesday night it was like a war zone.”
He said the camp’s facilities were too inadequate and unable to cope without hot water or disinfectant.
“A visited the Golden Bay Holiday Park at Tukurua Beach in the Tasman district on Wednesday, finding the campground’s facilities overwhelmed by up to 50 new cases of sickness in the camp, the Nelson Mail reported.”
Nearly all of the campers had experienced illness, as of posting, before the camp was finally closed to new arrivals.
The cause of the outbreak was not known but the virus [assuming it’s Norovirous] could spread through water, a local health inspector, Dr Kiddle, was quoted as saying.

If you are visiting New Zealand, and you really ought to know better NOT to, avoid ending up in the hospitals.
Death-pitals. Dunedin Hospital, Tokoroa Hospital, Taranaki Hospital, Thames Hospital and Whangarei Area Hospital have been struck by one or more highly infectious viruses.
An estimated two to three hundred patients and hospital staff have been quarantined in the past week.

If you are visiting New Zealand, and you really ought to know better NOT to, try some New Zealand shellfish, not all shellfish are deadly here (!)
New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty health officials have issued a strong warning after up to eighty people fell ill from toxic shellfish poisoning.
“Medical Officer of Health Phil Shoemack says the risk has not gone away and two people have been admitted to hospital. At least another four people have been seen in Emergency Departments.” TV NZ reported.
“Dr Shoemack says there are anecdotal reports of others getting sick with classic paralytic shellfish poisoning symptoms of numbness and tingling round the mouth.”
Blog can confirm that the reports are true, rather than merely “anecdotal”
The area affected by paralytic shellfish poisoning runs from Tairua on the Coromandel, all the way south of the Bay of Plenty including Whakatane rivermouth.

[New Zealand Death Syndrome (NZDS), Health Bulletin # 15. Outbreak of Norovirus, August 19, 2008]
At least four major outbreaks of highly infectious gastro-intestinal norovirus have been reported throughout in New Zealand’s south Island. In two Dunedin hospitals about 100 people have been affected. In Otago at least 47 patients and 79 medical staff have been infected by the virus since August 1. In Greymouth another outbreak in a rest home has been comfirmed by the health officials. About 50 percent of the residents and medical staff have caught the viral sickness.
It’s not known how many peopled have been killed since the outbreak started.
Norovirus affects people of all ages. The viruses are transmitted by food or water which is contaminated with feces and by person-to-person contact.
The disease is characterized by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. General lethargy, weakness, muscle aches, headache, and fever. Symptoms may persist for several days and may become life-threatening in the young, the elderly, and the immune-compromised. (Read more).
New Zealand food and personal hygiene is one of the worst in the world.

A 39-year-old Asian woman, presumed to be Korean or Japanese, was murdered in Auckland as her assailant who snatched her handbag knocked her down with his 4WD and drove over her.
The Asian victim suffered serious head injuries and died about an hour later.

Octogenarian Chinese Woman Bashed to Death
Was she mistaken for a Japanese? Would that be a plausible defense in the racist, corrupt New Zealand Courts?

Deceased: Yin Ping Yang, 80, was fatally attacked at her home. She was the second of three Asians murdered in Auckland, New Zealand, the Valley of Death, in one week.
Yin Ping Yang, an 80-year-old Chinese woman, who was viciously attacked by intruder(s) in her Auckland home Wednesday (June 11, 2008), died from internal injuries Saturday.

She may have escaped the fury of China quake, but the frail old grandma was no match for New Zealand’s racist storm!
Police detective inspector said the victim had received broken ribs, internal and serious head injuries in the attack and was in a critical condition when she was taken to Middlemore Hospital where she died Saturday. She was not believed to have been sexually violated, police said. [Isn’t that (a) amazing (!), and (b) a relief to her son and grand children?]

Mr Wolfie to the Next Busload of Tourists: Hello Lunch! Do You Feel Lucky Today?
Two separate tourist buses, one carrying Japanese tourists and the other Chinese, crashed in less than 24 hours in New Zealand.
In the first incident which occurred Saturday near Matamata, New Zealand, at least 7 Japanese tourists were treated for injuries.
The second tourist bus crashed and rolled down a bank, with the bus ending up on its side on Sunday. At least 8 Chinese tourists required hospital treatment for their injuries.
Police spokesman said the crash could have been a lot worse and the tourists were lucky to be alive! [They don’t normally survive the ‘mandatory’ crash!]

In all probability, as with the rental cars in New Zealand, the buses are NOT properly maintained or serviced. It doesn’t take much for a poorly maintained car, bus, quad bike, ski jet, airplane … to go out of control.

ANOTHER ANOTHER… TOURIST TOURIST … KILLED KILLED … IN NEW ZEALAND IN NEW ZEALAND …
Folks, is this a repeat viewing of Groundhog Day or what?
The tourists in New Zealand are being murdered, killed on the roads or in entirely avoidable accidents like flies as the tourism industry laughs all the way to the bank!
We say enough killing of the tourists in New Zealand!
A 19-year-old English tourist was killed in a quad bike “accident” on a kiwifruit orchard in Katikati, media reported.
“The on-farm handling of quad bikes has been an issue raised by accident investigators and insurers. Bikes have been getting bigger and more powerful Training of riders has also been an issue.” (Source)
When is an “accident” not an accident?
In all probability, as with the rental cars in New Zealand, the quad bikes are NOT properly maintained or serviced. It doesn’t take much for a poorly maintained car, quad bike, ski jet, airplane … to go out of control.

[New Zealand Death Syndrome (NZDS), Health Bulletin # 11. Outbreak of Staphylococcus aureus, June 12, 2008]
[“Unlucky”] Baby died after infection breakout
One of the “unlucky” 21 babies who caught the [potentially] fatal staphylococcus aureus infection in Auckland Hospital’s Neonatal unit died.
The bacteria is reportedly immune to common antibiotics. In a similar outbreak at Wellington Hospital in 2004 three babies died and at least 30 others infected.
The hospital’s infection control clinical adviser said the infection was relatively common in neonatal intensive care units. [Conclusion: The babies who died must have been “unlucky!”]

Bacterial cells of Staphylococcus aureus, which is one of the causal agents of mastitis in dairy cows. Its large capsule protects the organism from attack by the cow’s immunological defenses. Magnified 50,000X. (Source)

To the corrupt ex police commissioners and the current acting police commissioner: Why haven’t you interviewed Mr Wolfie in connection with Jae Hyeon Kim’s disappearance?
A number of readers have contacted the Moderators wondering why New Zeelend hasn’t yet written about the disappearance of Korean tourist Jae Hyeon Kim. We had intended to write a few words at a later date, but here are a few details about Mr Kim’s disappearance:

MISSING, PRESUMED DEAD: Korean tourist Jae Hyeon Kim went DINZWAT [disappeared in New Zealand without a trace] in 2003.
Jae Hyeon Kim, 25, was last seen in Alan’s Backpackers in Nelson. His family reported him missing in May 2004 after he failed to return to Korea from New Zealand. Police revealed that his cash card was used for a transaction at a Westport bar and cafe in September 2003, three weeks after he left the flea motel in Nelson.
Five years on, although the police have reopened the file into Mr Kim’s disappearance, they haven’t revealed why Mr Wolfie has not been treated as a suspect.
