Keep Your Kids OUT of New Zealand!

Health workers revealed an outbreak of group A streptococcus bacterium, which causes rheumatic fever and can lead arthritis and heart damage, had infected at least 32 children in Kaikohe, New Zealand.

[New Zealand Poisoning Syndrome (NZPS), Health Bulletin # 9. Outbreak of Viral Gastroenteritis, May 30, 2008]

Widespread outbreaks of suspected viral gastroenteritis in Wellington, New Zealand have been reported. One victim described it as “violent.” She said: “It was insane, like there was something really bad inside that just had to come out.”

About a thousand children and adults may have been hit by the “violent” stomach bug. An adventure playground and cafe where the first outbreak occurred have been closed.

Visitors are advised not to consume the local food. (Source)
