Laboratory tests by MPI confirm presence of plant fungus in Te Puke, Bay of Plenty [of Death]

The infection has been found in a 25-year-old ramarama plant in a private residential garden, said Myrtle rust response Incident Controller David Yard, who called the new find “very disappointing.”

“We had thought that the incursion could be contained to the small geographical area around Waitara. While it’s too early to say what the new detection will mean in terms of the ongoing operation, it’s certainly not good news in terms of its distribution in New Zealand,” he said.

“Our preliminary talks with the property owner have not found any obvious link with the situation in Taranaki or Northland, and there have been no recent nursery plant introductions to the garden. This lends weight to the possibility that this new location is a wind-borne infection.”

To date, there are 46 known infected properties in New Zealand including 4 in Northland, 2 in Waikato, 39 in Taranaki and the 1 new find in Bay of Plenty.

Another fatal plane crash: Do NOT fly planes, choppers in New Zealand

How a small plane crash disrupts lives of tens of thousands of people in New Zealand!

A small plane has crashed into power lines near Wairoa, just north of Tiniroto, killing at least two people and leaving tens of thousands of homes in Gisborne District without power.

More than 20,000 customers have been affected by the outage and are likely to be without power for several days.

The plane crash has caused significant damage to the city’s electricity infrastructure (!) leaving the entire city and multiple rural areas without power, said Gisborne mayor Meng Foon, local media reported.

“It’s [destroyed at least] four major pylons [made of Chinese steel?] and 800m worth of power lines.”

Civil Defence has told people to conserve water: No power, no water!

“Keep flushing the toilet to a minimum, don’t water the garden, and the biggest advice is to prepare and think about how you’ll be cooking,” their spokesperson said.

[Translation: Do not drink or cook, refrain from urinating or defecating indoors, AND shower and bath are certainly out of the question for the foreseeable future.]
