Q. What do an Aussie swimmer, a Chinese granny and an English biker have in common?
A. They all were among an undisclosed number of tourists killed in New Zealand recently!
Aussie tourist Mathew Slade, 21, drowned after going for a swim with friends in the Waikato River, near Taupo, on Wednesday evening. His body was recovered at 2.15pm on Thursday, police said.
Mathew Slade had been camping at the nearby National Equestrian Centre, and was preparing for a competition in New Zealand in March, according to a report.
Chinese national Rongmei Wang, 71, was killed in Hamilton on Christmas Day, while several others were in Southland and Taumarunui on Boxing Day and in Oamaru.
The man who was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck on SH6 between Nelson and Rai Valley was Allan Ford, aged 73 years, from Horsham, West Sussex in the UK, police said. “Mr Ford was holidaying in New Zealand for several weeks. He was riding with four other motorcyclists when the accident happened.”

Google employee killed in New Zealand
Police have named the German tourist who was killed in Mount Aspiring as 38-year-old Frank Spychalski.
Frank Spychalski, 38, was killed in Mount Aspiring National Park in South Westland when he fell 200 metres from a ridge, police said. His last entry on google diary dated November 27, 2012 read: “Back on the Te Araroa and moving faster than ever. Rented a MTB for today (well, an old wrack that hasn’t seen maintenance in years) and per chance picked a trail that’s part of the TA. Somehow NZ feels like a huge outdoor entertainment pack.”
On Google site, Spychalski has been described as an “espresso addict, software engineer & outdoor geek”.
The dead man worked for Google in Munich, Germany.
His body was found in Mount Aspiring National Park in South Westland where he fell 200 metres from a ridge, police said.
Yet another feather in Google’s news censorship cap!
On average, 3 foreigners are killed in New Zealand every 4 days.
Frank Spychalski was probably the 2,600th visitor killed in New Zealand since January 2000.
